Has anyone come across a Joel Hawkins in Wilkes County, b. abt.1798, who married Cynthia Paisley, b. sometime before 1800. They were married abt. 1820. Cynthia died July 18, 1884 at abt. 90 years old (date from her tombstone). She is buried in the Kendall Family Cemetery in Elkville in Wilkes County. There are also some unmarked graves there; so Joel Hawkins could also be buried there. Today the road is called Kendall Town Road and crosses Elk Creek and winds around the side of the mountain which our family still calls Kendall Mountain. The cemetery sits on the side of the mountain above some farm buildings. Someone has built a new house next to it. My late Uncle Hugh Patrick McShane and his great nephews built a fence around the cemetery some years ago to protect it. I assume that Cynthia was living with her sister when she died. Her sister was my Great-Great-Grandmother Margaret Paisley, b. May 14, 1802, d. Nov. 13, 1888 (from her tombstone) who was married to Thomas Kendall (b. Aug. 10, 1798, d. April 22, 1875). They lived below the cemetery. I have Joel Hawkins as the son of Joshua Hawkins, b. abt. 1757 in Orange County (VA. or NC). I have Henry, Samuel and Sarah as siblings of Joel. Joshua Hawkins was married to Dorothy Beam, who was b. abt. 1759 in Rowan County. They married April 8, 1780 in Rowan County, NC. Dorothy Beam was the daughter of Peter Bohm b. 1737 in Germany. His wife was Mary b. abt. 1737 in Germany. They were married about 1755 in Germany. I have Margaret and Cynthia Paisley as the daughters of John Paisley b. abt. 1748. There mother was a Holt. It has been years since I worked on this family line and there has to be more to the story, so would appreciate any new data someone can add to this line. Thanks much.
