    1. [NCWILKES] Joines + Caudill ~~~ Now that's Cool
    2. Lenny F. Caudill II
    3. I was in the Register of Deeds Office today Wilkes County. I pulled a deed whereby Jesse Caudill (forget the numerous spellings) was granted land at auction May 4th, 1829. The land being sold was Jeremiah Caudill's. There are two tracts auctioned actually - two deeds. Book M p. 358 and Book M p.360. Jeremiah died at about this time and I'm wondering if maybe his estate wasn't being liquidated to satisfy his debts. As I was transcribing the deed tonight, the metes and bounds sounded incredibly familiar. The 100 acre tract described in 1829 adjoins land owned by Ezekial Joines, runs along Morgan's line, and is situated on the Roaring River. I started looking at other deeds I have and discovered that the description of this land is nearly VERBATIM from a grant to Stephen Caudelle from May 13, 1789 Book D p.48. (The distances and types of trees at the corners are exactly the same). That's a forty year time span! Instead of Ezekial Joines, the 1789 deed says Joines' line (Thomas Joines perhaps?). Ezekial Joines wasn't born until 1800 unless maybe it's his grandfather Ezekial in the 1789 deed. On the seventh day of January in 1801, William Caudill buys 100 acres of land from Israel Walters Book C-1, page 275-276 and it too shares a property line with Morgan's line. My hunch is that all this land is somewhere near Absher. If you know absolutely where any of this property is. Please write.
