Lenny, Jesse P. Caudill purchased the property at public sale from Sheriff Vannoy because property taxes etc where due at the time of Jeremiah Caudill's death. I believe that Jeremiah Caudill died intestate (without will). This is why Clayton Cox always believed that Jesse P. Caudill was the son of Jeremiah rather than James Caudill, Jr. But, truthfully, Clayton Cox also states that all the old-timers that he talked to stated that Jesse P. Caudill was the son of James Caudill, Jr. Clayton Cox never gives information whom he actually talked to or where he received his information. Just because Jesse P. Caudill purchased the property at public sale does not mean that he was the son of Jeremiah. I wonder if Jesse P. Caudill could have had the property re-surveyed? If he did the re-survey might mention something to the fact that it was purchased from his "father". If something like this is mentioned in a re-survey that would prove that his father was Jeremiah. I do not know if a re-survey was done. It is just an idea. Sharon ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lenny F.
