Computer may have logged in under pay account rather than free account. I find it hard to belive that a Cherokee Chief would be on a census it what was no longer considered Cherokee lands in 1840. Furthermore the trail was prior to 1840. If you check the this message a Cherokee ancestor replied to you about your Cheif http://boards.ancestry.com/localities.northam.usa.states.northcarolina.counties.qualla/3632.1.1.1.2.1/mb.ashx I think the Official Cherokee Tribe would know who their Chiefs were.
