    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Barnes, Hatton, Livingston, Pennell Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/xUB.2ACE/4243.1 Message Board Post: Hello KD Hatton, I think I may be able to help you out with some information about Sarah Hatton and her family. First of all, Sarah Hatton's maiden name was Barnes. Sarah Barnes married Charles W. (Charley) Hatton on November 29, 1860. Charles died before 1880 and left Sarah as a widow to care for their three children. Their three children were Thomas H. Hatton, Milton C. Hatton and John C. Hatton. Thomas H. Hatton married Margaret Elizabeth "Sis" Pennell, daughter of Wesley "Wes/West" Pennell and Celia Alice White. Milton C. Hatton married Mary Elizabeth Livingston. Milton later abandoned Mary Elizabeth Livingston and married another woman from Burke County, North Carolina. Milton changed his last name to Pennell and remained in Burke County until his death. Milton and Mary had four daughters and one son. Their names were Brookie Hatton Barlow(e), Bertha Lou Hatton Gilbert, Beulah Hatton Gilliard, Lucy Hatton Walsh and John Finley Hatton. Milton and his second wife, Josie Gilbert! had two children. Their names were Oscar Pennell and Cora Pennell Feimster. Milton's father was an unknown Pennell, so that is the reason Milton changed his name from Milton C. Hatton to Milton C. Pennell. In the 1880 Caldwell County, NC Federal Census, Sarah is living in the Kings Creek Township close to Wesley Pennell's family and Henry H. Pennell's family. Wesley Pennell was the father-in-law to Thomas H. Hatton as Thomas married Margaret Elizabeth "Sis" Pennell. Henry H. Pennell was a son of Wesley Pennell and a brother to Margaret Elizabeth "Sis" Pennell. I have copies of Milton C. Pennell's obituary notice in the "The News-Herald" newspaper from Morganton, Burke County, NC and also a copy of Milton C. Pennell's death certificate from the Burke County, NC Register Of Deeds Office. Finally, I also have a copy of Milton Hatton and Mary Elizabeth Livingston marriage certificate which is a marriage listing that has very little details. I also have other obituary notices, death certificates and marriage certificates for some of Milton and Mary's children. There is a Mary Hatton listed as being buried at Kings Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, so this may be Milton's first wife. Thomas H. Hatton's wife, Margaret Elizabeth "Sis" Pennell is also buried at Kings Creek Baptist Church Cemetery right beside her parents, Wesley and Celia (Selia) Pennell. Milton C. Pennell (Hatton) is buried at Forest Hill Cemetery in Morganton, Burke County, NC. It is unknown where Sarah Barnes Hatton and her husband Charles W. (Charley) Hatton are bur! ied at but I would guess in either Burke County, Caldwell County or Wilkes County in North Carolina. If you would like any of the above documents, then please feel free to send me a personal e-mail and I'll be glad to share these items with you and your family through snail mail or e-mail attachments. I hope some of the above information is helpful and useful in your family research. Best regards, Michael Jay Pennell Caldwell County, Lenoir, NC powerpennell21@yahoo.com
