Mrs. Burton was born March 24, 1918, in Wilkes County to Oliver P. and Fannie Elizabeth Sprinkle Holbrook. Mrs. Burton was a homemaker and was a member of Cool Springs Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Burton; a daughter, Patricia Burton Hash; four brothers, Jasper "Jack" Holbrook, Robert Laurn Holbrook, Joseph Oren Holbrook and Lonnie Buerette Holbrook; and a sister, Lillie Asper Burton. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, William R. "Randy" Burton and his wife, Diane, of Hilton Head, S.C.; a son-in-law, Jerry Hash, and wife Barbara of Winston-Salem; two grandchildren, Scott Hash and his wife, Julia, of Raleigh and Dawn Hughes and husband Richard of Holly Springs; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Bratt Holbrook, and wife Ruth; a sister, Ruby Raye Henson; and a sister-in-law, Annie Holbrook, all of Elkin; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, May 19, at Cool Springs Baptist Church, with the Rev. Donald Gillenwater officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. one hour before the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to Cool Springs Baptist Church Cemetery Fund. Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin is serving the Burton family.
