William CLARK has several land transactions in Wilkes Co NC before he leaves for TN abt 1800? and then on to KY. William and his wife, Leah JOHNSON, are shown to be living in Capt Johnson's District. William Clark arrived in Wilkes County between 1782 and 1785. According to information from "The Land of Wilkes" Early County Government. On 7 September 1785, the Roaring River Baptist Church (Organized in 1779) sent delegates William Clark, Andrew Canady, Ambrose Hammond (Hamon) and Thomas Johnson (no doubt a relative of Leah Johnson} to a conference at Brother Martin's (Briar Creek) Church. Also in the book, the court appointed tax listers and assessors for 1777, the last year Wilkes was part of Surrey. A Thomas Clark (who could have been William's father or brother) was appointed an assessor. 10 September 1785, deed, William buys 250 acres of land for 50 pounds from Henry Gambill. The land was located on the south fork of the Roaring River, part of the deceased William Gambill’s upper survey left to said Henry Gambill by his father. 28 November 1792, William Clark receives land grant 1254 for 200 acres beginning at the low notch of Elk Ridge. He also receives land grant 1265 for 200 acres on waters of Cranberry Creek, at the low notch of Elk Ridge. There are several other land transactions before William leaves Wilkes Co NC. William made his will is Estill Co. KY. He named his children, David, Thomas, Henry, Sarah Clark Parker, Elizabeth Clark York and his granddaughter Leah Clark. Elizabeth married Jeremiah YORK, born 1779. William CLARK is shown to be living in the same district (Captain Johnson) as David PARKER. Perhaps Elizabeth married one of David's sons? David married unknown. Thomas married unknown Henry CLARK married Martha Jane LUNDY Any information re these families of Wilkes Co NC will be appreciated. Thank you. Phyllis Phillips

I'm interested in Frances Tompkins Livingston, who married James Isbell around 1750. Do you know if there were other Livingstons in Wilkes Co at that time? I'm looking for a female Livingston who may have married into my Trosper line around 1768. Thanks, Lucy McTamney

Are they also in Wilkes County, NC? I'm working on a far-fetched theory that a Livingston may have married Nicholas Trosper around 1770 and settled there. Any thoughts would bw appreciated.
