Like I said, your Adams family isn't my family, as far as I know.. There were two sets of Adams men in Wilkes---yours on Lewis Fork, which was founded by a William Adams, Sr. (d. 1783,) and the ones that lived by my William Harris on the Roaring River, almost on the Surry Co. line (Benjamin, John, Jacob & Spencer that I know of.) (I don't know if these neighbor-Adams may have been relations to my Will Harris or not, as I don't know the maiden name of his wife, but they all lived in the same little community in Wilkes. [There was also a John ADAMS in Culpeper, Virginia where my Will Harris was, but I don't know if this might be the same family or not.]) I find William ADAMS Sr.'s land entries on Lewis Fork, then a notation of his death (but don't have record of his will), and I find a William (apparently Jr.) listed in the Land Entry Book, index, but don't have the entries themselves; then I find record of Moses selling Wilkes Co. land. I wasn't able to locate much but I hope what little I did find at least gives you some help. :-) Here it is. My grandmother was Florence Childress (Childrice) born 10 July 1896, in Wilkes Co. She married: 1. Will Spicer, 18 Dec 1914 in Surry Co: Children were: Verlen, Mazel and Willie Mae( born 1922 Wilkes Co). On her social security application, she stated her name to be Besie Emaline Childers. On Mae's certificate, she is listed as Florence Childress. 2. Next marriage was to TS Jones in Unicoi Co, Tn. She had three more children, Jack T Jones, George Henry Jones and Edna Jones. 3. Third marriage was to Alton Sweet in Fla. I have found several names and variations that she used: They are Florence, Besie, Bessie, Emaline and Lois. On the 1920 Leaksville, Rockingham Co census, she is living in the home of Hirem and Ann Childress. She is listed as a boarder with two of her children. In 1930, she is in Unicoi, Tn. Verlen and Mazel are not with her. I did find Verlen living in the home of Gordon Billings in Traphill. Any information will be helpful. Please e-mail me at kizydanzer@aol.com

    3. Hi Jeanie and others, I have read some of your notes with interest as I have ancestry in that area as well. I live near Atlanta, but have visited Wilkes County several times in the past few years to do research. George McNeil (a third cousin and good of mine) has taken me to see the very place you describe in your note below. I took photos of these stones and of the site. If anyone wants to see them, here's the link to Leonard Bumgarner's stone: http://www.roots2buds.net/showheadstone.php?ID=3. His daughter, Lydia Bumgarner, is supposedly Stephen Bumgarner's mother (without the benefit of marriage), but I have not found definitive proof as of yet. If anyone is researching the following surnames from Wilkes County, please feel free to take a look at my site. I don't claim that the information is perfect, but much of it is well researched and documented. I would love to correspond with others of these lines. From the Millers Creek area: Bumgarner, Nichols, McNiel, Holdaway, Hincher/Hinchey/Hinchaw, Minton, Adams, Vannoy, Shepherd From the Brushy Mountain area: Gilreath, Hendren, Parlier, Hayes, Shin, Wallis, Souther, Cook, Combs, Ellis Thanks (and "Hi" to those I haven't talked with in a while!), Gail Rich Nestor Smyrna, GA www.roots2buds.net ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: jeanie stout <msjbostian@yahoo.com> Date: Aug 19, 2006 6:52 PM Subject: [NCWILKES] In very old cemetery To: NCWILKES-L@rootsweb.com I was in an extremely old cemetery today . We were driving around Miller Creek. Not sure what Rd this cememtery is on we drove on Congo RD and on Minton RD and I think near Fish Dam creek??? Any way the cemetery had some newer stones Ellers and Nichols But half the cemetery was full of old wore done stones no marks on them. Some old stones with new markers put near them. Lydia Bumgarner 1794-1846 L Bumgarner 1775 -1818 C Bumgarner 1764- 1844 Also I think on Congo RD ?? I seen a lovely old white house. I think red trim. In the field below was an extremely old barn. The house faced a field . What was so cool about this old home that was kept up very nicely. Windows were very clean. There were great big round high ancient oak trees that were to the right of the home . One on each side of the beginning of a wide path that was layed out in very large old stones leading to the front entrance and on both sides of the path were very old green box wood shrubs or bushes nicely trimmed to line both sides of path. Just infront of the porch was a very large flat stone that was in the shape of a triangle to the porch steps. I sure would love to know what home stead that was when it was first built. I know it was one of the old ones. Jeanie --------------------------------- Stay in the know. Pulse on the new Yahoo.com. Check it out. -- Gail Rich Nestor Smyrna, Georgia www.roots2buds.net

    1. Hi from Library ?
    2. jeanie stout
    3. Hi I think the women who spoke with me briefly is on this forum. Are you Jean?? Any way you asked me what family was I searching? I search many for the fun of it. My friends, neighbors and family. I always have several projects at once. I am also Deed searching at the court house. I get paid to do that. So I do not reveal who it is for. I am trying to trace back a few tiny little old deeds. One was only 3 1/2 acres. It like finding a needle in a hay stack. And to trace them I need to know the families in the area and who owned what and who married who etc etc. So I was not tracing a family lineage that day. But I have done a great deal of gathering the lineages of several families who are interrelated etc. I was in a great hurry that day I am sorry that I had no free time to chat and the first copy machine went hay wire on me just when I was on a roll. I had an appointment at 11:00 that day. And I think I seen you about 10:30+ when I still was deep into copy work from George McNiels books. I also like to share what I do have from my home source with others on this forum. I am going to go to my home state in one week for a week. Maybe I will get time for my own family research? I hope to come in contact with you again and I hope I am not in a hurry. Usually if I am in the Library in the early afternoon I am not in as big of a hurry. I some times do look ups that are easy from this forum when the Public library. Jeanie --------------------------------- How low will we go? Check out Yahoo! Messenger’s low PC-to-Phone call rates.

Only problem is - that I reformatted my computer and lost the websites I had saved with that info. I remember that the father was William Adams Jr. and his Father was John Adams and his Father was a William Adams also. So the odds are good that the Moses' you are looking for is the Father of a William Adams. That name seems to run in the family. I hope I am making sense. The main thing all people should understand is that when you post a question here -people will reply with helpful answers. Let me do some checking and see if I can find the William Harrison Adams in my records. I'll get back to this post again.
