It's correct the Carter and Wilkes were never same place. If you go to the county formation maps at http://www.genealogyinc.com/maps/uscf.htm and look at Wilkes 1828 and Tennessee 1824, you'll observe that Ashe County NC is between the two. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Harvey Norris" <harveynorris@comcast.net> To: <ncwilkes@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, September 14, 2006 8:20 PM Subject: Re: [NCWILKES] NCWILKES Digest, Vol 1, Issue 1 - Greer Family > Carter county,Tennessee and Wilkes County were never the same place. They > are > about 60 to 70 miles apart.I live in Carter county and go to wilkes County > quite often.Carter County was formed in 1776 from Washington County > Tennessee. My grandmother was a Church from North Carolia but have > connections in Carter County. What Church are you talking about that was > m.in > Carter Co.? > ----- Original Message ----- > From: <RaeSunshin@aol.com> > To: <ncwilkes@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Thursday, September 14, 2006 8:02 PM > Subject: Re: [NCWILKES] NCWILKES Digest, Vol 1, Issue 1 - Greer Family > > >>I remember that one of the Church family marriages was in Carter County, >> Tennessee, which was apparently quite close to Wilkes County of that >> time. >> I'm >> not sure that Carter County, Tennessee and Wilkes County, North Carolina >> were >> not different names for the same real estate at one point in time. >> >> This particular pair were married in 1829. >> >> Just an idea. >> >> Rae Williams >> grannyandpopacaldwell.com >> >> ------------------------------- >> To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to >> NCWILKES-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the >> quotes in the subject and the body of the message >> >> >> -- >> No virus found in this incoming message. >> Checked by AVG Free Edition. >> Version: 7.1.405 / Virus Database: 268.12.3/447 - Release Date: 9/13/2006 >> >> > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > NCWILKES-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message >

I remember that one of the Church family marriages was in Carter County, Tennessee, which was apparently quite close to Wilkes County of that time. I'm not sure that Carter County, Tennessee and Wilkes County, North Carolina were not different names for the same real estate at one point in time. This particular pair were married in 1829. Just an idea. Rae Williams grannyandpopacaldwell.com
Thanks, for your quick reply I think that maybe they were married somewhere else. Maybe where the Boone family was located before NC. I found a copy of his will posted in Ky. leaving most everything to his children by Sarah very interesting. thanks again Mary Ann ----- Original Message ----- From: <WRTill@aol.com> To: <ncwilkes@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, September 14, 2006 10:06 AM Subject: Re: [NCWILKES] NCWILKES Digest, Vol 1, Issue 1 - Greer Family > Benjamin Greer's second marriage is listed in the NC marriage index, but > there was no listing of his marriage to Nancy Wilcoxson or the marriage of > Rachel > Greer to Robert Judd. > > Wayne Till > ----------------------- > Groom: Benjamin Greer > Bride: Sarah Jones > Bond Date: 26 Apr 1791 > Bond #: 000165376 > Level Info: North Carolina Marriage Bonds, 1741-1868 > ImageNum: 004354 > County: Wilkes > Record #: 01 099 > Bondsman: Benjamin Jones > Witness: Chs Gordon > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > NCWILKES-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message > > > -- > No virus found in this incoming message. > Checked by AVG Free Edition. > Version: 7.1.405 / Virus Database: 268.12.3/447 - Release Date: 9/13/2006 >
