    3. Greetings -- On Sun 24 Sep 2006 @ 15:03, Mary Ann TALBOTT wrote the following to the NCWILKES@rootsweb.com mailing list: >Hi, >The information about the marriage of Benamin Greer and Sarah Jones >is also recorded, except for the bond #, in the book >Marriages of Wilkes County, NC 1778-1868. This source has another >Benjamin Greer & Leah Waters, 31 Jan 1822, Lewis Waters, bm. > >Also, if you live relatively close to a Latter Day Saints History Center, >you can access the marriage information though that facility, I >believe. >Regards, Mary Ann Perhaps it MIGHT be of help to some researchers to note that this above second referenced Benjamin GREER (1802 - bef 1890), who married Leah WATERS, was the son of Jesse GREER (1778 - 1869) who married Mary "Polly" Morris, and thus the grandson of the Benjamin GREER (1746-1816), by his first wife Nancy Ruth WILCOXSON (1743/1745-1790). I realize that everyone is trying to be helpful here, but there are darn near as many Benjamin GREER's as there are "Church's" in the greater [Wilkes Co] NC area. So some extra details might help make it a little easier for those interested in the various GREER's to 'figure out' who goeth with whom !!!!! Continued best wishes to everyone who are also working on their own family histories. Regards, /r R. E. Sheppard Working, working, working - on my own Family History !!

I'm not sure that Carter County, Tennessee and Wilkes County, North Carolina were not different names for the same real estate at one point in time. This particular pair were married in 1829. If you go to the county formation maps at http://www.genealogyinc.com/maps/uscf.htm and look at Wilkes 1828 and Tennessee 1824, you'll observe that Ashe County NC is between the two. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Harvey Norris" <harveynorris@comcast.net> To: <ncwilkes@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, September 14, 2006 8:20 PM Subject: Re: [NCWILKES] NCWILKES Digest, Vol 1, Issue 1 - Greer Family > Carter county,Tennessee and Wilkes County were never the same place. They > are > about 60 to 70 miles apart.I live in Carter county and go to wilkes County > quite often.Carter County was formed in 1776 from Washington County > Tennessee. My grandmother was a Church from North Carolia but have > connections in Carter County. What Church are you talking about that was > m.in > Carter Co.? > ----- Original Message ----- > From: <RaeSunshin@aol.com> > To: <ncwilkes@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Thursday, September 14, 2006 8:02 PM > Subject: Re: [NCWILKES] NCWILKES Digest, Vol 1, Issue 1 - Greer Family > > >>I remember that one of the Church family marriages was in Carter County, >> Tennessee, which was apparently quite close to Wilkes County of that >> time. >> I'm >> not sure that Carter County, Tennessee and Wilkes County, North Carolina >> were >> not different names for the same real estate at one point in time. >> >> This particular pair were married in 1829. >> >> Just an idea. >> >> Rae Williams >> grannyandpopacaldwell.com >> >> ------------------------------- >> To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to >> NCWILKES-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the >> quotes in the subject and the body of the message >> >> >> -- >> No virus found in this incoming message. >> Checked by AVG Free Edition. >> Version: 7.1.405 / Virus Database: 268.12.3/447 - Release Date: 9/13/2006 >> >> > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > NCWILKES-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message > ------------------------------ Message: 7 Date: Thu, 14 Sep 2006 21:35:24 -0600 From: "KAY ABRAM" <grandma4_9@msn.com> Subject: Re: [NCWILKES] NCWILKES Digest, Vol 1, Issue 1 - Greer Family To: <ncwilkes@rootsweb.com> Message-ID: <BAY118-DAV92089716481C569B388DAE52E0@phx.gbl> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Interesting on Benjamin Geer, they are somewhat connected with my Hamptons.
