My ggreat aunt was Mary Ann Staley Garner. Even though she lived in Wilkes most of her life, she's fallen off the Staley family radar. I have the story of the murder-suicide of their son Dr. Robert William Thomas Garner in Susanville, CA, but that's all. Just curious about the rest of the family. Jimmie Staley

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/xUB.2ACE/4228.1.1.1 Message Board Post: My grandfather was named Charles Spurgeon Brown. We believe he was named after the famous British preacher Charles Haddon Spurgeon. My grandfather was borned in 1892, the year the famous preacher died. He actually used the name of "Spurgeon Brown" when signing legal documents. My grandfather was borned in Wilkes County, NC. My grandfather's grandmother was named Mary Brown (born abt 1832). My grandfather also had an aunt named Mary Jane Brown, who was borned in 1864. We believe Mary Brown's maiden name most likely was Fletcher. Because of the middle initial of "A" in your Mary Brown, this leads me to think this may not be the same Mary Brown as you are looking for. Wilkes County seems to have alot of Browns. There is a small community I believed, called Spurgeon, NC (zipcode 28659) and I believe it is in Wilkes County (North of North Wilkesboro). I think your Spurgeon most likely refers to a place (community) and not a person. I do not live near Wilkes County but if you ever have an opportunity to visit the Public Library in North Wilkesboro, NC they have an great Genealogy section with all types of books. I have been there once and found a good book listing the brides by maiden name going back into the 1800s. Sorry I could not have been more help. If I run across a Mary A. Brown, I will follow-up. I am researching my family of Browns in Wilkes and may run across it. Good Luck in your search.
I've added more old pictures to my webpage including pictures of the Bauguess and Harris families. Both families lived in the Traphill area. Another new picture is a Stony Ridge School picture from 1928 with all 30 people identified. I also have a new, easier to use format for viewing the pictures. http://www.webjmd.com/pics/album.html I probably have between 50 and 100 more Wilkes pictures that I'll be adding over the next week or two. Let me know if you see anybody you know! Jason Duncan http://www.webjmd.com --- [Pre-scanned for viruses by Internet America.]
Robert Newton Garner was one of 3 sons of my ggrandmother and her first husband, Hillary Thomas Garner. They also had one daughter. After the death of Hillary she married my ggrandfather. What are you looking for from this family?

His parents were Watt or Walter Canter and Amie Ann Canter, formally Amie Parker. (Where i'm related to them) He died in March of 1924. I found his draft registration card on here for WWI, and we believe he may have served in WWI, but we haven't been able to verify this. Any information anyone could provide on Charlie, or any of his siblings, Gertrude, Clyde, John and George would be wonderful. I've found a little bit on John and George I believe, on here, but very little on Charlie. Thank you ahead of time for anyone who can provide information or tips of any kind.
