Angie, I looked through my Wilkes resources and didn't find anything about your Edward Ferguson in that time frame. Of course, the Heritage Book I is small print, is a large book and it is possible I overlooked something. I did note something in the Heritage Book. One article mentioned that the Feguson Books were in the Wilkes Co. Public Library. I was there just after Thanksgiving but of course, wasn't looking for info on 'Fergusons so I can't confirm that bit of info. If you ever do go to Wilkes, may I recommend that you also check out the Wilkes Co. Community College library? They have a very nice genealogy section. And their people are ourstanding in their assistance, guiding one to specific resources that go along with the surname for whom you are searching. If they have it, they will help you find it! . Barbara, Specifically, I don't know of any Ferguson's and where in Ky they went but I do know that Ky was a favorite spot to migrate to during that time in early 1800's. There were many marriages between Ferguson's and Coffey's in Wilkes co, NC. Many of the Coffee and Ferguson families came to Hawkins/Hancock co Tn. during that time. Give me some Ferguson names. I am descended from Richard Ferguson and Verlinda Triplett of Wilkes County, NC. Richard was born on March 1, 1765 and died May 24, 1854. Verlinda Triplett Ferguson, daughter of William Triplett and Eleanor Harbin, was born in 1775. She died between 1830 and 1840. They were married in Wilkes County about 1789. Richard and Verlinda had the following children: 1. Rebecca Ferguson, b. abt. 1801 (Rebecca married Joel Waters, son of Moses Waters. This is my line). 2. Nancy Ferguson (Married James B. Brown) 3. John T. Ferguson 4. Sarah Ferguson (Married Daniel Holman 5. Elizabeth Ferguson (Married James Swanson) 6. Eleanor Ferguson (Married Larkin McNeil) 7. Jesse Ferguson (Married Polly Brown) 8. Jerry Ferguson (Married Louise McGee) 9. Jordan Ferguson 10. Polly Ferguson 11. Priscilla Ferguson 12. Elviry Ferguson 13. Delphia Ferguson The others never married and remained at the Ferguson Homeplace. My Great Aunt Amelia Ann Kendall married James Harrison Brown and they lived on the family farm and took care of these old folks. I have other information and would be glad to share. If you differ with what I have, I would like to hear from you as this is and ongoing project. Nina Cobb Ninajcobb@aol.com
Margaret, I also have the Heritage of Wilkes Vol. I. I do not own Vol. II. However, Vol. I has numerous articles about the Ferguson and Triplett Families. Unfortunately, the book is out of print now. According to the book, William Triplett Who married Eleanor/ Elonar Harbin had 11 children, 6 of whom were born in Loudon county, VA. It talkes briefly about his parents, Francis and Elizabeth Triplett. After Elizabeth Triplett's death, William moved to Orange county, NC where he purchases 100 acres of land. Not sure where it was located. Next in Wilkes where he bought land on Dec. 25, 1778. He had 150 acres on the big branch of Beaver Creek. I don't live there, so don't ask me where that is! ;-). I just have a lot of Wilkes ancestors. There are 3 pages, (6 articles about Tripletts) and 2 2/3 pages with 5 articles about the Fergusons. Although some of both surnames are written about people who were born in the late 1800's to 1900's. Have you checked Jeff Weaver's New River Notes for info on your people in Wilkes? I haven't checked but he has collected a huge amount of information about people in Southwestern NC and VA. Happy Hunting! Hi, I noticed your remark about the Fergusons in Wilkes Co. NC. You sound as though you've researched the Ferguson there. I've searched for my Coleman Ferguson in Wilkes Co. for about 30 years without any luck or any connection to any Ferguson there at the time. He was bc 1783 VA, married Mary (Polly) Proffitt in Wilkes Co. NC 1811, and was on the tax list from there in 1814 as a defaultor. He next appeared in GA marrying another lady in 1825. I have everything else on him until he died August 1864 Cherokee Co. GA. There is so much misinformation on the internet about him, but I thought I'd contact you to see if you had any leads or info....even a suspicion. No other Ferguson family in Wilkes Co. will claim him. Thank you so very much. Sandra Ferguson Lamb
need a more specific time frame for each couple but most of the Fergusons resided in Elkton,Beaver Creek,Ferguson and Patterson

According to local stories, he died by drowning in the Yadkin/Reddies River in May 1812. I have not been able to find a death record or anything to corroborate this. Is there still a newspaper on microfiche maybe that may have announced his death. His wife, Eve, divorced him 1803 (one of the few divorces ever granted) and took all the property that he lived on with her. I don't know if he continued to live in Wilkes after the divorce but he is said to have remarried but possibly not in Wilkes. I am fairly certain of his death information because of the various people I received the exact same info from. Is there any way to validate this info???? What records are still left that would help?
