    2. In a message dated 1/5/2007 8:15:25 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, N5BRY@aol.com writes: Does anyone know if Coleman was originally from someone with a surname Coleman? Nita, This is a suspicion I've had about Coleman Ferguson, too. It seems likely that his mother's surname would've been Coleman and that he, most likely, was not a firstborn son. However, over the years, I've not found a Ferguson/Coleman connection in the right time frame either. Maybe, there are some Coleman's out there who would know more.....hopefully....some day. Thank you for thinking for me. Sandra

    2. Mary Ann, Thank you so, so much for responding about my Coleman Ferguson. I'll take any little, tiny tidbit I can get. I know he didn't just fall out of sky in Wilkes Co. and marry a prominent citizen's daughter without being connected to somebody there. The Proffitt and Ferguson researchers have always said they know nothing about any connection....the Rousseau's, too. It's interesting about the spelling of the one's marrying the Dula ladies because there were some Dula's in the area of GA where Coleman shows up in 1825. Now, I guess I need to check on the lineage/research of William and Thomas Forguson. Do you happen to know anyone who has their lineage or has done their lines? Thank you, again, for letting me hear from you. Sandra

    3. Sandra, I looked in my Wilkes Co. Marriages of North Carolina and couldn't find your Coleman Ferguson at first. Surprise! He is spelled even differently than the others! Forguson, Coleman & Polly Prophett, 3 Nov 1811; David Roussau, bm You mentioned that the other Fergusons didn't seem to connect. For what its worth, there are two others in the marriage record that spell it the same way as Coleman. Forguson, William & Sary Dula, 1 Nov 1814; Jno Dula, bm Forguson, Thomas & Eliza Dula, 13, Oct 1829, Benj. W. Cass, bm Mary Ann P.S. I did doublecheck for typos this time! ;-). Both William and Thomas married Dula brides. I've searched for my Coleman Ferguson in Wilkes Co. for about 30 years without any luck or any connection to any Ferguson there at the time. He was bc 1783 VA, married Mary (Polly) Proffitt in Wilkes Co. NC 1811, and was on the tax list from there in 1814 as a defaultor. He next appeared in GA marrying another lady in 1825. I have everything else on him until he died August 1864 Cherokee Co. GA. There is so much misinformation on the internet about him, but I thought I'd contact you to see if you had any leads or info....even a suspicion. No other Ferguson family in Wilkes Co. will claim him. Thank you so very much. 3. Thanks for your reply. I have a Joel Triplett from Wilkes Co NC b about 1785 married Jane Jones. Joel is the son of William Triplett II of VA married Nancy Ferguson. Both of these died in Adair Co KY. Yes I am familiar with Jack's Ferguson line. Clinton was part of Cumberland at one time so was part of Adair. I have more info if we think we connect some way. I was born in Cumberland Co and was a Keeton they came with the Ferguson's and others from NC to KY. My first Keeton was Clifton on 1830 Census of Cumberland Co KY. The census state he was born in NC but I can't connect with his parents yet. 3. Margaret, I got my copy off e-bay about 3 years ago and only paid about $10.00 for it. I must have gotten a bargain, because Abe books doesn't even have it and Amazon.com has it in paperbook for about $51.00, used. Mine was published in 1983, is hard back and in almost perfect condition. It is about 6 X 9 and maybe 1" thick. Red cover. Mine covers the years 1778-1868 although again when I was in Wilkes I saw other marriage books for Wilkes covering other years at the Community College if I remember correctly. If you live close to a Latter Day Saints resource room, they probably have it or access to it because it is featured on Ancestry.com. However, having the hard copy is easier to see because of all the variations of spelling Ferguson and Triplett.. 3. Hi Barbara, I wondered about that Ferguson connection, too. I have Jack Ferguson's books on Early Days in Clinton County (was formerly Green then Cumberland, then Clinton Co. KY) I think I saw somewhere in one of his books that those Fergusons came from South Carolina? I can locate only two of the books right now but I don't recall seeing any Tripletts in the Clinton Co. books. However, in the Wilkes Heritage book, it does refer to the fact that William Triplett, 4th child of Micajah, and William's wife Nancy Ferguson sold their land in Wilkes in 1803 and moved to Adair Co. Ky.( Where I was born!) which is why I noticed it so much when I was scanning the article, I suppose. Not my family, so I don't have any specifics. It seems that it was a path along the migration route. My Long family was there for many generations, which included: Vannoy, Stamper,Jones, Taylor, Tolliver, Absher, and many others. 3. Mary Ann, William Triplett was the 4th child of Micajah? Somewhere I have seen where his parents were Francis and Elizabeth. Am I reading this wrong? We may have two different William Triplett's. The pension records for the Rev War, (which we disapproved) state that he was b 1763 in Loudon co, Va. He paid Jeremiah Ferguson to take his place in one of his enlistments, because of his widowed mother. He went in 1803 to Russell co, Ky to live out his life and that was where he applied for the pension. Maybe he had a son named William? 2. Many of The Barlows also lived on Beaver Creek. Look for Patterson ,Elkville/Elkton and Boomer. on a map. Beaver creek should also be on a modern Wilkes Map. Many of the Fergusons lived near Beaver Creek Baptist Church. They also lived not far from where the Tom Dula incidents took place
