Could you post a copy of the will? I assume that this is John and Elizabeth of Pigg River, which means that James can't be a brother to John Thomas and Richard. Their father was a Thomas according to Mrs Abbott and a Mrs Kinser of McMinn co, Tn. ----- Original Message ----- From: "preagan" <preagan@new.rr.com> To: <ncwilkes@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, January 22, 2007 5:57 PM Subject: Re: [NCWILKES] Ferguson I do not know the age but he would be the brother of Sir James Ferguson from Virginia and I do have their fathers will. Hello Wilkes County PRUITTs: After 20+ years of digging -- I finally was able to put the pieces together for my parental ancestors. I don't know if it is accurate; but I did locate an older relative (sister of Albert PRUITT) for the first time this weekend who remembered details back to Harden (Hardin?) Pruitt and his spouse Margaret OSBORNE. My Pruitt parental ancestor lineage: Me...then; father Albert Lee PRUITT, b: 1933 d: 1996 of Broadford, Smyth County, VA > William Cameron PRUITT, b: Abt 1882 d: 1937 of Wilkes County, NC (sp: Virgie Mae ORANGE) > Harden (or Hardin?) PRUITT, b: Abt 1849 of Wilkes County, NC (sp: Margaret OSBORNE) > Jeremiah PRUITT b: Abt 1821 of Wilkes County, NC (sp: Rebecca) > Joel PRUITT Sr, b: Abt 1786 of Wilkes County, NC (sp: Polly) > Joseph PRUITT Jr, b: Abt: 1766 of Wilkes County, NC (sp: Unknown) > Joseph PRUITT Sr of Wilkes County, NC (sp: Rachel) > Uriah PRUITT of Wilkes County, NC (sp: Elizabeth) > Henry PREWITT Sr (sp: Rebecca DABBS or DOBBS > Thomas PREWITT, b: Abt 1616 of Salisbury, Whiltshire, England (sp: Unknown). 1880 US Federal Census records indicate "Harden" spelling and spouse Margaret and other family information lines-up with known children names. I worked backward through records from that point. Harden Pruitt resided in Rich Valley, Smyth County, VA at the time of this census and present day distant relatives are located in Rich Valley, Smyth County ,VA. Family lore is that Native American heritage is part of my PRUITT blood line, possibly Cherokee? Can anyone clarify this information? Can any PRUITT in Wilkes County, North Carolina help me glue the other pieces together about my parental ancestors? Are their any current PRUITT relatives of this line still in Wilkes County, NC? Thank you very much! Alan Pruitt Pleasanton CA

Descendants of John Ferguson Generation No. 1 1. JOHN2 FERGUSON (UNKNOWN1) was born in Scotland, and died in Franklin County Virginia on Pigg Creek in Virginia. Child of JOHN FERGUSON and ELIZABETH UNKNOWN is: 2. i. JAMES (SIR)3 FERGUSON, b. Abt. 1757, Franklin County Virginia; d. Abt. 1837, Wilkes County, North Carolina. Generation No. 2 2. JAMES (SIR)3 FERGUSON (JOHN2, UNKNOWN1) was born Abt. 1757 in Franklin County Virginia, and died Abt. 1837 in Wilkes County, North Carolina. He married ELIZABETH MARY SMITH Abt. 1773 in Franklin County Virginia1. Notes for JAMES (SIR) FERGUSON: So the story goes like most others , it begins with two brother came to America, or three brothers came to America......Thomas, Richard, John, James Ferguson or Farguson are the names that I have collected as the four brother that came from Scotland. William married Elizabeth Dula and moved to Tennessee.Richard married Verlinda Triplett and they had 10 children,.John Ferguson married Francis Triplett, and James married Elizabeth Smith. I am not sure about the first part of the information and that is what I am looking for. James Ferguson came from Franklin County, Virginia. He was born abt. 1750 and was the son of John Ferguson and Elizabeth Smith. They lived on Pigg River. The first four children were born in Virginia. He was called Sir James but no one knows why. Good question. I have never found a marriage record for a Ferguson and Smith. The first four children were born in Virginia and the rest were born in Wilkes County North Carolina. James Ferguson is listed in the Wilkes County Will book no. 4. Listed Nov. 1834. So he probley died about a month before. I also suspect that there could have been a second wife because he has two daughters listed as Elizabeth and one named Jane. James and Elizabeth Smith are the parent of my Elizabeth Ferguson who was born in 1785 Wilkes County, now Caldwell County. She married William Bradley in Wilkes County, 26 January 1812. Elizabeth’s brother would marry Mary Castoven and they would have a daughter named Elizabeth that would marry Thomas Maltby. They would have a daughter named Kurturna that would marry the son of William Bradley and Elizabeth, his name is John J. F. Bradley. Children of JAMES FERGUSON and ELIZABETH SMITH are: i. ELIZABETH4 FERGUSON, b. Abt. 1773, Franklin County Virginia; m. PHILIP DAVIS, 09 March 1791, Wilkes County, North Carolina. ii. SARAH FERGUSON, b. Abt. 1775, Franklin County Virginia; m. F. and 1800 and 1820 not in 1810 Jeremiah and 1800 no later Jno and 1800 no 1810 then again in 1820 Jos and 1800 not later Nicholas not later Richard and 1800 not in 1810 then again 1820 Thomas and 1820 William and 1820 There were no Ferguson's listed on the 1810 (strange) All the 1790 were in the Morgan Dist. No Triplett's found in 1790 or 1800 Barbara -----Original Message----- From: ncwilkes-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:ncwilkes-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Margaret Mabrey Sent: Sunday, January 21, 2007 4:33 PM To: NCWILKES@rootsweb.com Subject: [NCWILKES] Ferguson Families of Wilkes co, NC As most of you Ferguson researchers know I have been working to put all these Ferguson's in their place!! Ha Ha. I have Jeremiah Ferguson that is unattached to anybody. The NC State census has a Jeremiah and a Jeremiah Jr listed in Wilkes co. In 1790 only what appears to be Jeremiah Jr is listed. The 1800 has Jeremish Jr listed as being age 26/45. after 1800 there is not more Jeremiah. Another of the problems that I have is the marriage between Jeremiah and Frances Triplett. On all charts on the web and Wilkes Heritage books, and Hortense Abbotts book, and the will of John Ferguson seems to show that John Ferguson married Frances Triplett, and not Jeremiah. Was he John Jeremiah Ferguson? Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I did not find a marriage record for John Ferguson. In the 1840 census of Wilkes County, the Lewis Forks area is designated as Captain Wheeler's District. Does anyone know what that means?
Does anyone know if there is a book that has the names of the NC soldiers that fought in this battle? If so, could I ask someone for a look-up? PLEASE? I am looking for William Gambrel (or Gambill) (married to Mary Wash). He died in 1779 "of war wounds", but no idea of what battle he was fighting in when he was wounded. Thanks for any help Muriel Gambrel
Hello folks - I am trying to find out more about one William Gambrel, of Wilkes county (Anson) who died of war wounds in 1779. I don't know how long he lived with injuries, before he died in 1779. Would there be a record of his death somewhere? (being a soldier?) Would he have been fighting in the Revolutionary war? (1776 - ?) Also, does anyone know if soldiers in the Revolutionary War were able to get "bounty land", and would or could this have been land in SC? And since he died in 1779, would his wife and children have been able to get the bounty land? William Gambrel was married to Mary Wash, and in the 1800 census of SC there is a Mary Gambrel with children, but no husband. I am wondering if she could have moved to SC from Wilkes in NC. Would appreciate any information on this. Thank you! Muriel Gambrel

They should have a Copy of his death record if thats where he is burried.Should list his parents. Mine died in Caldwell. I did not find record of Marcus there. It does seem that my Byrd/Bird's and your Byrd/Birds were the only ones up in McDowdell WV. from Wilkes.
