    2. I would like to find the names of the spouses of Shadrack F. Gambill, b. 1824 Wilkes, and his son, John F. Gambill, b. Nov 1869, probably in Wilkes. The census lists the first name of Shadrack's wife as Nancy E., b. 1844 NC, and they were married about 1869, probably in Wilkes. John F. Gambill married abt 1898, probably in Wilkes. Wayne Till

    2. Margaret, stay on the Avastin. I think it is working for me even after just two injections. About Hortense Abbott, she meant well, but she was something else. I will see if I have the Ferguson Book here. I have walls of bookcases filled with genealogy books. I had loaned a lot of my books to my Uncle, Hugh Patrick McShane, of Cornelia, GA. He died at age 94 on May 30 of last year and I am slowly trying to get my cousins to ship my books back. So far I have been able to get back both of the Wilkes Heritage Books. Thank Goodness. So if I can't find the Ferguson book, I will call them. I will keep you posted. Nina Cobb Ninajcobb@aol.com

    1. [NCWILKES] Corporal John Henry PRUITT II - US Marine Corps
    2. Alan Pruitt CPP
    3. Good Morning List: I have found my "home" list on Rootsweb in Wilkes County NC and I wanted to share something that is partly responsible for my passion and interest in the PRUITT family heritage. Several years ago, I was trolling through eBay and I noticed a listing for an envelope that was postmarked "USS PRUITT" -- I won the bid ($5.00!!) and soon was holding an envelope that had been postmarked "USS PRUITT". When I 'googled' the USS PRUITT, I was stunned to learn the rich history of not only the ship; but also her namesake, "Corporal John Henry Pruitt II". The USS PRUITT survived the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and went on to participate in many Pacific Ocean battles. Read more about the USS PRUITT and this brave American: USS PRUITT -- DD-347 History: http://www.hazegray.org/danfs/destroy/dd347txt.htm On 7 Dec 1941, "Pearl Harbor Day": http://www.history.navy.mil/docs/wwii/pearl/ph71.htm Marine Corporal John Henry Pruitt II (World War I DOUBLE Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient): http://www.medalofhonor.com/JohnPruitt.htm Corporal John Henry Pruitt II was the ONLY American Serviceman to earn the Congressional Medal of Honor TWICE for the same combat action in any conflict. That feat has NEVER been replicated by any Marine, soldier, sailor, or airman in our nation's history. He died from his enemy inflicted combat wounds on his 22nd birthday. That is an incredible source of pride for all Pruitts' to think about and remember. Plenty of Corporal John Henry Pruitt's family information is printed in the link above. As a retired Marine AND a Pruitt; it's not hard to see how this inspired be to really break down those "brick walls" and develop every detail about my Pruitt heritage. Thank you for reading this email -- please forward it to other PRUITTs in your line -- it is a great story that needs to be remembered. Semper Fidelis, Staff Sergeant Alan Lee Pruitt U. S. Marine Corps, Retired

    1. [NCWILKES] CLARK FAMILIES OF WILKES CO NC
    2. I would like to contact Patricia Torrez, a research for the Wilkes Co NC CLARK families. Her email address is no longer valid on Wilkes Co Surname listing. THOMAS CLARK on 1800 Wilkes Co NC census removed to Hamilton Co IN. I believe before Hamilton Co IN, he and a HENRY CLARK, who appears to be the age range are listed on 1820 Lawrence Co IN census report. If I am correct, I am certain they are connected to my CLARK's who are early in Wilkes Co NC...Thomas on 1800 census appears to be the only CLARK for that census year. Patricia wrote: Hamilton Co. Querie Researching the following family. Thomas CLARK b. 22 Apr. 1770 in MD. son of John T. CLARK m. 1 May, 1800 Wilkes Co. NC. to Elizabeth (Betsey) McBRIDE Will probated for Thomas CLARK on 24 Feb. 1858 in Hamilton Co. IN. Thomas/ Elizabeth's children were all born in Wilkes Co. Thomas CLARK and family first settled in Fall Creek Twp. in 1834. Patricia L Torrez 1996 post on Hamilton Co IN GenWeb site Phyllis Phillips

    2. Just a thought, don't believe everything in Mrs. Abbott's book on the Fergusons. There are many, many errors. Just keep an open mind. I corresponded with Mrs. Abbott for many years, until her death. I descend from Richard Ferguson and Verlinda Triplett. Mrs. Abbott always insisted that there was no way I could descend from Richard Ferguson. She was adamant about that, even when I sent her my information. You just could not convince her. She said my Grandmother, Minerva Josephine Kendall, daughter of Larkin Leroy Kendall and Leah Waters, could not be descended from Richard Ferguson. But Leah Waters was the daughter of Joel Waters and Rebecca Ferguson. Rebecca Ferguson was a daughter of Richard Ferguson. I need to go back in my files and find the letters from Mrs. Abbott, and post them on the Wilkes site. I have some from James Larkin Pearson also. Right now I am having to deal with wet manacular degeneration in my eyes. I am having injections of the cancer drug, Avastin, in my eyes. Let's hope it works, as I have a lot more research to enter in my database. I would like for you to post a copy of the will also. Thanks. Nina Cobb Ninajcobb@aol.com

    3. Nina, Thank you so much for your insight into Mrs Abbott. I have not been able to find a copy of her book as yet. Wilkes co Librrary copied and mailed to me some pages, mostly the beginning of each chapter. It does give an overview of the families of John Thomas and Richard. I wish we could have dna testing done on each branch of that tree to see if they fall in the same family tree. I too have wet macular degeneration and have had Avastin. I wanted Lucentis except that my insurance won't pay for it as yet. I also have Occular Histoplasmosis and Lucentis has not been approved for that as yet. I can still read my computer screen as long as I get enough light on it and the keyboard. I've had i shot of Avastin so far but that's all. We have recently had three testers match (Ferguson's). My ancestor Andrew J Ferguson came to Hancock co, Tn from Wilkes co NC about 1830. Another match was Moses who left Wilkes co about 1840 and settled in Bledsoe co, Tn. Third match was from a family that settled in Madison co Ill, descended from a John L. Ferguson. Maybe from Halifax co, Va.
