I just noticed it and may have responded to you but have no record. In any event, my information goes back to James and Rebecca but I have little substantial information on them. It is good, however, to hear from another cousin. I know that following the time that Mason and Clary Brown moved to Indiana many Brown family members followed them to Wells County, Indiana and nearby areas. In fact, there is a substantial contingent of Brown family descendents in that area. I am going to visit some distant cousins in Indiana next month. Two or three years ago I went to the national archives in Washington to look up Powell ancestors and found that members of the Brown family in NC had previously looked at the records in the 1930's while doing genealogy research. Included was correspondence from a congressman supporting their request for information! Since the Browns also collected information on the Powells I am wondering if you know of any source for the Brown Family genealogy work from the '30's? Are such things archived somewhere? Since they had congressional help I assume it was a substantial piece of research. I would certainly like to know more about the Brown family. I know the members of the Brown family in Indiana helped my great grandmother a great deal and my father (who has been dead for nearly 40 years) kept contact with the Browns in NC while a young man. It seems amazing to me that the families in Iniana and NC kept track of each other and visited and communicated for at least a century after my ancesters came to Indiana. Anyway, I hope you receive this and if you can update me on information about the Browns including whether they came from Northern Ireland and about previous genealogy studies I would be enormously grateful. I did not get an alert notice to your message by e-mail and just now checked RootsWeb. I will send you some pictures by e-mail of the William McCoy homeplace. Many years ago I often heard family talk about relatives in Texas. James Wesley McCoy, wife Verna and several of the children came to NC homeplace and held a revival meeting when I was young--must have been about 1940. From my records he was son of John. Aunt Hattie (d. of William McCoy)married Charlie Carpenter in Texas and they had two children: Shelton and Josephine. Josephine ("Jo") married William James in Texas. They returned to NC to live for several years and then returned to Texas about 1963. Both died in Troup, Tx. Delighted to hear from you. M.Kate

I understand from old accounts that there is a 'Powell Family Cemetery' in Wilkes County near their old family home. How would I go about locating the site of that cemetery (which I presume is near Parsonville) and also the location of John Martin Powell's previous residence/property? Since my gggg'father and grandmother lived at the end of their life with John Martin I'm assuming they are buried in the family cemetery or nearby. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated. I hope to visit the area and would like some guidance on where to go. Bill Powell

It is said there was a man and I think his name was John Dockery was one of the first ones to settle in the area where Dockery is, by that I mean the church and the store. He had a pottery business and apparently he found a better source of clay down around North Wilkesboro and he moved. I think his entire family went with him. That is the story I have always heard. There were many other families living around the area but in that spot there were none. Because of the road and the post office that area became known for him. Apparently during that time potteries were around that area. there was also I think a Ballard pottery place there too not far away.
I'm interested in your ALLEN and WATTS lines Mine are from Monroe Co. and NC Thanks, Krys

Hi Linda, my ancestors were George and Elizabeth Earls Smith through their son, Abner Smith, their daughter Nancy Smith b. 4 Feb 1795 did marry a Daniel Flanary b. 1776 and they had two daughters, Elizabeth Flanary who married Alfred Adams, she was raised by George and Eliz., her sister, Tilda was raised by Flanary relatives in either Ky. or Tn. after their parents died. Just have Daniel Flanary as Daniel, but it is possible he was Joseph Daniel Flanary. Hope this helps. Ellen
