    3. Lenny, Jesse P. Caudill purchased the property at public sale from Sheriff Vannoy because property taxes etc where due at the time of Jeremiah Caudill's death. I believe that Jeremiah Caudill died intestate (without will). This is why Clayton Cox always believed that Jesse P. Caudill was the son of Jeremiah rather than James Caudill, Jr. But, truthfully, Clayton Cox also states that all the old-timers that he talked to stated that Jesse P. Caudill was the son of James Caudill, Jr. Clayton Cox never gives information whom he actually talked to or where he received his information. Just because Jesse P. Caudill purchased the property at public sale does not mean that he was the son of Jeremiah. I wonder if Jesse P. Caudill could have had the property re-surveyed? If he did the re-survey might mention something to the fact that it was purchased from his "father". If something like this is mentioned in a re-survey that would prove that his father was Jeremiah. I do not know if a re-survey was done. It is just an idea. Sharon ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lenny F. 3. Lenny - There may be an existing plat map book that would show exactly where the property is. The Register of Deeds Office should be able to point you in the right direction to it, if one exists. Oh, and by the way, cousin, Jeremiah was my fourth great grandfather. R.A. in CA

    1. [NCWILKES] Joines + Caudill ~~~ Now that's Cool
    2. Lenny F. Caudill II
    3. I was in the Register of Deeds Office today Wilkes County. I pulled a deed whereby Jesse Caudill (forget the numerous spellings) was granted land at auction May 4th, 1829. The land being sold was Jeremiah Caudill's. There are two tracts auctioned actually - two deeds. Book M p. 358 and Book M p.360. Jeremiah died at about this time and I'm wondering if maybe his estate wasn't being liquidated to satisfy his debts. As I was transcribing the deed tonight, the metes and bounds sounded incredibly familiar. The 100 acre tract described in 1829 adjoins land owned by Ezekial Joines, runs along Morgan's line, and is situated on the Roaring River. I started looking at other deeds I have and discovered that the description of this land is nearly VERBATIM from a grant to Stephen Caudelle from May 13, 1789 Book D p.48. (The distances and types of trees at the corners are exactly the same). That's a forty year time span! Instead of Ezekial Joines, the 1789 deed says Joines' line (Thomas Joines perhaps?). Ezekial Joines wasn't born until 1800 unless maybe it's his grandfather Ezekial in the 1789 deed. On the seventh day of January in 1801, William Caudill buys 100 acres of land from Israel Walters Book C-1, page 275-276 and it too shares a property line with Morgan's line. My hunch is that all this land is somewhere near Absher. If you know absolutely where any of this property is. Please write.

James Fletcher Sr. left 1000 acres of land in Ashe Co. to the children of William Gilreath Jr.? We have yet to explain why. The Fletchers and Gilreaths lived close by on the Yadkin River just south east of present day Wilkesboro. They were active in claiming and trading land in the Wilkes, Ashe, and now Watauga County areas. The records indicate that they were likely close friends, and possibly there was a kinship suggested by James' 1805 Will. We can only speculate at the present time

    2. jde holman
    3. Does anyone have any information on the story of a young Royal man being mistaken for an outlaw and shot and killed by a sheriif's posse in the early 1900's. His name may have been "Cremmie" (???) he was born abt. 1906 in Wilkes Co. I remember my grandfather telling me this tragic story of his younger brother being shot and killed by mistaken identity in Wilkes County where they grew up. Their parents were Thomas & Sarah Elizabeth Wyatt Royal who later moved to Ashe Co. I'd love to hear from anyone who has heard this story and can give me any info at all, or who may be related to this family in Wilkes Co. Deborah

I am related to Maie McGee Church (Finley) through my maternal grandfather, William Thomas Bumgarner (son of Harison and Mary Church Bumgarner) whose sister was Hannah Bumgarner McGee (Maie's mother). On my father's side, Michael and Elizabeth Church (Amos and Elizabeth Swink Church) Bumgarner's son Amos married Matilda Church (Elijah and Ann Blanton Church). Their son Perry A. Bumgarner was my great-granfather. Perry's son was John Allen Bumgarner, and my father was Ulysses Glenn Bumgarner. It seems like down through the years, many Bumgarners have married Churchs, and many Churchs have married Bumgarners.
