I too have family from that time frame in Wilkes and have found that most people buried family on family land. There weren't any centralized cemeteries to speak of at the time. Families were buried on family land and there are a ton of these private cemeteries on property in the county. I was able to find the present owner of the property my family used to own but that may not be that easy. You should call or write George McNiel of Wilkesboro. He is an elderly gentleman that cataloged all the cemeteries in the county, private and public. He is an excellent source and a very nice man. He's even given me GPS coordinates to find graves. Also, he notates family relations. Wilkes is a close knit community and any family around for a while is known to most of the older groups as well as there background. Look him up...he's great. My CLARK family is in Wilkes Co as early as 1780's to 1800's. I would like to know if there are cemeteries that would have remains for this period and time? Thank you.

**************************************
AOL now offers free email to everyone. Find out more about what's free from AOL at http://www.aol.com.

the chidlrenof Ann Melton were conceived and born at times when Tom Dula could not have been the father.Tom dula was reported to be the father of Laura Fosters child she was carrying when she was murdered.I fail to see a any similaity to Anna Nicole Simpson.
You can add my name to the list too. However, the best way, in my opinion, to share this information with a wide variety of people (both now and on down the road) is to give a copy to the Wilkes County rootsweb coordinator or to upload the information (and photos if available) to www.findagrave.com. I see that someone has generously loaded many transcriptions and photos for many cemeteries in Wilkes County and that is a big help to us all. I also have lots of cemetery photos and data for Wilkes Coutny on my web site, but I think I will add it to Findagrave too because it's a great central repository and is becoming very popular. Back to the original posting - I got the impression that the person was offering more of a look-up and not so much planning to e-mail (or snail mail) out a bunch of lists to the masses. However, I might have misunderstood. Her comment was, "I have a list of all burials, if anyone needs information." Good luck to all of you with your research in Wilkes County! James Maelton was a shoe cobbler and it is said he slept in one bed whilst Annie Foster Melton and Tom carried on in the next in the same room. He did not divorce her and they were still married when Annie died years after Lauras Murder. She died of the pox(Venerial disease). The Day she died she told the Doctor the truth) many say it was a death bed confession that she killed Laura and Tom helped cover it up. it was also said she saw black cats crawling up from hell and climbing the walls the day she died and could here hot coals sizzling all around her bed. The untreated syphylllis no doubt had effected her mind by the time it killed her. She and James Melton left offspring.
