A DNA match has been made for John Hagins/Higgins of Wilkes Co., NC, and Thomas Hagans of Rowan/Davie Co., NC. John Hagins was in Wilkes Co., in 1790. In 1800 he was listed as John Hagens, and in 1810 as John Higgins. He married Fannie Baugess. Now we're looking for the following people from the 1800 census in Wilkes Co. Betsy Hagens age 45+ with 2 females 10-15 and 1 male under 10. Mary Hagens age 16-25 with 1 female & 1 male age 10-15, and 1 female & 2 males under 10. In 1810 there was a Mary Higgans in Wilkesborough age 45+ with several children, and an Elizabeth Haggans age 26-44 with 1 male under 10. A search of probate records on microfilm turned up no records for these families. Any clues would be appreciated.

A few years before she died, my mother told me that the property that my brother and I own in Ashe County was part of a 1793 land grant to Joshua WEAVER. Is there some kind soul who visits the Wilkes County courthouse fairly often who can take a few minutes to look and see if there is a Wilkes County (in part that became Ashe) land grant in the 1793 period in the deed books? I don't know when I will ever get to Wilkesboro again and would greatly appreciate a quick look-up. You can contact me direct at <[email protected]> . Thanks Charlie Weaver, Winston-Salem

Adams. Can't remember. The census is on www.newrivernotes.com. At that time, Wilkes contained what later became Ashe, later Alleghany as well. I'm researching Caldwell/Colwell (not related to me) and see a lot of given names that relate between these two families which did intermarry. Caldwells have a lot of Esther/Easters and I have wondered if they were named for Esther Adams, wife of ? Adams. Or perhaps all these Esthers were named for an even earlier one... Cousins, While I have hesitated posting this quasi off topic message, I can put it off it no longer. I am assured that all of you bear an especial kinship to Salisbury and Rowan Co, even to the historical happenings of the present day. Forgive me, if any take offence. The town of Salisbury and our surrounding community is in deep mourning as we suffered a great tragedy this week. A fire began in the basement of a very large millwork & cabinet shop just off Jake Alexander Blvd Tuesday morning 4 March 2008, noticed by the first arriving worker about 7:30 AM. The building stored wood, lacquers, paints, and other products for finishing wood. The insidious beast claimed the lives of 2 of Salisburys beloved hometown firefighting heroes and injured 4 of those from the Locke community that endangered their own lives to go in to save them. The flags in North Carolina are at half staff. Mayor Susan KLUTTZ asks that your thoughts and prayers be with this brotherhood and their families in this time of terrible heartbreak; as well as our entire grieving community. We are all hurting, Debra Today in The Salisbury Post http://www.salisburypost.com/ With video of the fire WCNC News http://www.wcnc.com/ Salisbury Post photo file http://salisburypost.mycapture.com/mycapture/category.asp?CategoryID=7199 ____________________________________________________________________________________ Looking for last minute shopping deals?
