I have been researching families in Wilkes for several years and have just started on the Parsons and Welch/Walsh surnames. I did know Lucille Baker Craven, she was married to Paul Parsons(son of Frank and Lillie) first. He died during WWII in Germany. Sadly, she passed away last December 13. I do not have Frank Parsons ancestors but, I have more on Lillie's ancestors. Let me know if you are interested and if it's ok, I will email you with more information. I know that my great great great grandfather was a John Tillman (Tilman)(born in the 1820s) and married a Lucretia Fletcher in Wilkes Co. North Carolina in 1844 (I believe) and was in Hancock County Indiana in the 1850 Census (one county south of Madison)and in Madison County Indiana in the 1860 Census. I know nothing about John's sibling or parents or where they came from. In looking up Tillmans I have come across the name George Tillman and Hily Becknel and wondered how George and John may be related. Am interested in any information you may have or any one out there has. You can email me at [email protected] Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Did you know any of them? I was there about a year or two ago and the area has really changed. The old iron bridge that went across the creek where Lillie used to live was gone. Alonzo Welch's house was gone. I don't remember if the house across the creek where Mitch or Mac Welch lived was there or not? The Parsonsville Post Office was gone also. I was told the mail route was changed to Pulear years ago. I stopped and talked to a lady named Lucille Craven on Benny Parsons Road. She gave me a lady's name in Winston Salem (Ruby Whittington) that gave me a good bit of information. I also found a lot of my mothers people burird in the Stony Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Barbara, I was looking at the school census and we are also spelt Michkel. It could be Michael but we also have the Mitchel's living near us. William is the only Mikel in my family and he married one of my Riddles. The rest of my Riddles married Hayes, Lewis, Tedder, Parker, Benge ( early land grants connect to Mitchel ) Eastridge, Moore and others. We were also very close with Jeremiah Gilreath. Jeremiah has also been transcribed as Gilbert.Any of these names in your family? Just curious what section ( district )of Wilkes were your Michael's in in Wilkes. May help me figure out if William was Michael or Mitchel Thanks! Jodi --- Barbara Shirley Rogerson <[email protected]> wrote: > Jodi, I don't have any Riddles or Mikels listed in > my tree.
