Please contact me offline at [email protected] The DNA evidence mentioned does indeed historically point to Northern Ireland, but historically, that does not mean that our Rev. George McNiel did not himself come from Scotland. Also, we have never been able to locate another male McNiel descendant of the Rev. George to test to be sure that the DNA from both lines matches and therefore confirms the DNA of Rev. George McNeil. The DNA did not match the McNiel's of Barra as expected, so it would be great to have another known McNiel descendant test. Glad to hear that cousin George is still doing well. Hi Les, I'll cast a line ever so often and see if I can get a bite. <grin> Braxton was a brother of Delphia Cox. I know one cousin in TX who is from Braxton's line. He and I are a perfect match in the DNA tests we both took. That's how I know I descend from this Cox family line. Have you ever been in contact with a gentleman by the name of Doyle Chambers? He has a pretty good website and a large data base on his Chambers family. I don't have his website address handy but I do have his email address. You might try contacting him. He is a very good guy and easy to talk to. You can tell him I recommended him. Hello, I'm trying to locate info on the Cox family of Caldwell and Wilkes Co. Matthew Cox Sr. died in Wilkes or Caldwell Co. in 1804. His son, Matthew Jr., daughter Delphia, and wife Lucy moved to what became the northern part of Caldwell Co.. Delphia Cox, d/o Matthew and Lucy Cox married William Roberts. They lived in Caldwell Co., and are buried at Union Baptist Ch. Matthew Cox Jr. also had land in Caldwell Co. on which he had a family cemetery. His parents Matthew Sr. and Lucy Cox, along with other family members were buried there. This land was later bought by the Hatley family. Later, some personal property of Matthew Cox Jr. including the Family Bible was acquired by a William Deal. An ancestor of William Deal named Donald E. Deal, wrote an article for the Caldwell Co. Heritage book vol. 1., referencing the above mentioned events. Matthew had other brothers named Mastin, Carter, Aris/Arys, Braxton, and Ambrose. Mastin and Aris moved to GA. around 1800. Braxton moved to TN. I would very much like to contact Mr. Donald Deal or any one else who may have knowledge of my Cox family or the family Bible. I'm related to this family through John Cox who was born in NC about 1780/90, I believe Wilkes or Caldwell Co. and who moved to the upstate of SC (Greenville Co.) around 1810. I have a good bit of info on this branch of the family and I would like to find out more about my other ancestors. Thanks, Eddie Cox in SC

I recently ordered a copy of the will of Aaron Kannedy (Kennedy, Canady), Surry Co., NC, Will Book B, p.228, dated Feb. 15, 1844 (might be 1845, but the word looks more like "four"), proved May term 1845. There are some people I don't recognize. (Some of the Kennedys/Canadys lived over the county line in Wilkes County so I am posted this on both message boards.) The will names Aaron's wife Temperance, daughters Jane ROBERTS, Febee DOUGLASS, [?]phinia POOR [might be Sophronia POOR], sons John KANNEDY and William KANNEDY, grandson Harrison HAINES, grandson Daniel SEATON? (maybe SEXTON or LEATON] who is the "son of my daughter Sally", Elizabeth BASSWELL (relationship not specified), and Ruffin KANNEDY (relationship not specified). "Worthy friend" Elijah THOMPSON was the executor. Witnesses were Ruffin KANNEDY and Alfred JACKSON. Marriage bonds show a Phebe KENNEDY who married William DOUGLAS on Nov. 18, 1824, Surry Co., NC. Otherwise, I can't identify any of these daughters. Ruffin Kennedy may be a grandson. My ancestor William Kennedy (thought to be the son of Aaron Kennedy/Canady) had a son named Ruffin b. 1820. There are some discrepancies with other family trees I have seen which indicate that Aaron Kennedy had sons named Larkin Kennedy and Aaron H. Kennedy (neither mentioned in the will), and a daughter named Elizabeth Kennedy who married Job WINFREY (also not mentioned in the will) (unless she is Elizabeth BASSWELL, perhaps married a 2nd time). The will appears to disinherit Elizabeth BASSWELL and grandson Daniel SEATON(?) ("son of my daughter Sally) by leaving each one dollar "and no more." Does anyone have any information relevant to the above? Thanks! Rebecca Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I can tell you that a William Kennedy owned property in Roaring Gap, Wilkes County. The surname spelling bounces around as you note. The area is on Hwy. 21, just south of Alleghany line and just west of Surry line. When I say just west of Surry line, I've seen adjacent deeds where the county line occurs in the metes and bounds. The deeds I'm talking about were early 1800's.
