OK This is mixed up here. HARVEY was apparently married twice, when looking at the Census. HARVEY & BETSY PHILLIPS CAPS/CAPPS Children were: 1. WILLIAM HENRY CAPPS bet. 1832-3 (18 yrs>per US1850) My GGgrandfather 2. ABNER CAPPS b. Abt. 1834 (16yrs-on US1850) 3. REBECCA CAPPS b. Abt. 1836 (Married WOOD) 4. MARTHA CAPPS b.1846 5. BETSY 'JEAN" CAPPS b.1848 6. EMILY CAPPS b. 1850 (Married JACKSON) BETSY PHILLIPS CAPPS must have died after 1850. The surname PHILLIPS is ascertained from WILLIAM HENRY CAPPS Death Certificate of which I have a copy. His father was listed as HARVEY CAPPS and his mothers maiden name was listed as PHILLIPS. He was listed as being born in "WAINE" County. Harvey is listed in 1830 US Census in WAYNE County.NC Harvey & Betsy are back in Johnston by 1850 per Census. (JEREMIAH CAPPS is living next door.) "BETSY" was listed on the 1850 census for Johnston County as Harveys wife. As to the descendancy form NEEDHAM CAPS/CAPPS. I have seen this speculated in Frances Howells book, but this is unproven. We have it as HARVEY was the son of WILLIAM CAPS/CAPPS & ZILPHA. Census does state there was a son of this age listed that would fit HARVEY, b. 1805. This WILLIAM was the brother of NEEDHAM. Again- this point unproven. Later Census Lists HARVEY & MARY and the following (additional) children, b. after 1850. JOHN CAPPS, b. 1854, JOSEPH CAPPS, b. 1851. MARY CAPPS, b. 1855. CATHERINE CAPPS, b. 1858. LEWIS CAPPS, b. 1860. Please contact your source with these corrections, as the earlier children are documented and other info is listed on WILLIAM HENRY'CAPPS Death Certificate.
