The service records are from the National Archives and Records Administration in Washington DC. You have to have forms from them to ask for these (or did the last time I did) but I think now you can get the forms from their web site, that is order them as they are a 3 part form that couldn't be downloaded unless they have changed. They did cost $10. but think they have gone up to $17.00, it's probably on the web site too. www.nara.gov The service records will show when they enlisted, roll calls or hospital stays, wounded etc. and sometimes discharged. The pensions are from the state in which they were living when they applied, after 1900-1910. It seems the law went into effect 1910. If they were CSA you can get them from the state but if they were Union there is another place to order. I can find this out, but do not know off hand. A cousin ordered the Parks in TN. Many counties have their roster of enlisted on their site, but there are lots of Civil War regiment sites. Have been to some but didn't bookmark. Maybe a Civil war buff can help with this.
