(she was born about 1881) The Smith family had one son: Andrew and 4 daughters: Kate, Patience and 2 that we don't know their names. There could have been more children also. I found some names in the Wayne County Cemetary listings: Edmondson Pope, C. Rena Pope, Wade Hampton Pope, Lola Martha Pope, Elma L. Pope. I wondered if anyone is researching this family and if there is any connection to a Smith family. One of the Smith daughters: Patience married James Henry Howell and they died in the flu epidemic after WW1 in Martinsville Virginia. . Their 4 boys were orphaned and they lived with other relatives. Leslie Howell lived with Uncle & Aunt Forrest Pope--Patience's sister. Marvin moved in with Patience's sister--Kate. David and Haywood moved in with thier step-sister (Martha Howell Evans--James Henry's daughter from his 1st marriage). I don't know if this is enough information to go on--but it is all I have right now. Thanks for any assistance. Debbie Howell [email protected]
