The CSA records in GA said they deserted and an older lady in the family said she knew her grandmother received a pension, so she started checking other records and found the 2 brothers in TN. My husband's ancestor had a "different" given name and was easier to locate. Sure enough, they both received pensions from the Union. My husband's gg-Grandmother said he had not served in the CSA, but I found records that he and his brother both did. Did not get his brothers pension. I am sure they had to lie to get the pension, and guess she really needed it. Some other of my family said in documents that the CSA forced them to enlist and I am sure the Union did the same.
