Searching for proof of the father of John Howell. John Howell was born 1753 in Wayne Co., NC (Dobbs). "My" John Howell b. 1753 had a son named Lewis Howell. John Howell was still living in Wayne Co., NC on the 1840 census. He was a Revolutionary Soldier. Lewis Howell, John's son, moved to Alabama after 1810 and was in Dallas Co., AL by 1820. Joshua Howell died 1799 in Wayne County. He had a son named John. He had a grandson named Lewis. Joshua Howell gave considerable land to his grandson Lewis when he died. He also left Lewis in charge of Joshua's son Jasper. It is not clear what was wrong with Jasper and why he was not responsible for himself. If "my" Lewis Howell is the grandson of Joshua Howell, why did he leave North Carolina when he had been given so much. I wonder if anyone else claims the John Howell who was the son of Joshua Howell.
