Is information available on marriages in Wayne Co. in the late 1700s/early 1800s? Currently seeking maiden names for 2 PEACOCK wives. Someone from Johnston Co. referred me to Wayne Co. Any help appreciated. 1) Elizabeth, wife of Jesse PEACOCK, m abt. 1777-1778. (Also, Jesse was my 4G Grandfather, and my G Grandfather's obit says his grandfather Jesse was an aid-de-camp to Gen. Washington in the Rev. War). 2)Lefa, wife of Wiley PEACOCK (b. c. 1796). Wiley (my 3G Grandfather) was son of Jesse above. Wiley, Lefa and family moved to western TN about 1832-1836. However, from a deed record in 1811, it appears the PEACOCKS you are researching are from Wayne County. You will have to have someone check the marriage records for that county to see if you can find the maiden names of the wives. Here is the transcription of that record: >KINFOLKS OF JOHNSTON COUNTY 1759 - 1825 VOLUME I Abstracted by Elizabeth E. Ross and Zelda B. I think there are Wayne Co. Marriages on the Wayne Co. Archives. You will have to go to the Wayne Co. page the click somewhere on the Archives and get the index. I may be mistaken...but Wayne Co. marriages began about 1787 and there are some I think. Wayne Co. page www.betterthanmost.com/wayne/ Rose
Not much in the way of marriages has been donated, unfortunately. I can only list what people are willing to donate. My best recommendation is the N.C. Births, Marriages, and Deaths Database located at http://bmdproject.rootsweb.com/ While you are there, please consider making some contributions of your own to the database. Free, online genealogy is only as good as you are willing to make it with your contributions. Diana
Another place to look might be the Peacock Family Association of the South. They maintain a large database of Peacock information. They held their Assocation meeting in Goldsboro, NC a couple of years ago. Perhaps someone in their society can help you. http://www.peacockfamily.org/ Laura J.
