    3. Hello to all In 1978, the Wayne County Historical Society set about taking an inventory of the graveyards in the county. They published a book of their inventories. With permission from them, these records are now online on Wayne Archives They are listed under "Gravestone Inscriptions" at this site http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nc/waynenc.htm It was a major task and lots of volunteers helped to put it together, a job well done Guy Potts

    3. I have enjoyed reading the history of Wayne County again and reviewing some of the items that I may have missed. You and your helpers have done an excellent job in putting this information out for those of us who are searching for our roots in Wayne County. Thank you sharing this with us. As a descendant of the Pikes and Colyers of Wayne County, I would like to correct a mistake on one of the articles listed under the Bicentennial Series and taken from the Goldsboro New-Argus. The mistake is as follows: "The King of England gave Samuel & Anne Pike a grant of between 2,500 & 3,000 acres in 1763 which contained what is now Pikeville." Samuel Pike did not come to Wayne County until much later. He had three wives, his third was Ann Dulcely and he did not marry her until after 1774 in Rich Square MM, NC. He bought land in Northampton County in 1772 as shown below. The information below, most of it was taken from Hinshaw's Quaker records. Descendants of Samuel (Jr.) Pike Generation No. 1 1.
