Sounds like the same book. 450 pages total. First 50 pages are research notes which covers the Sullivans in Johnston. Next 400 pages are the descendants of Jonathan Jackson Sullivant. Norm's site is all about the Sullivans in Dublin and there is a good chance for a connection of the Dublin gang and the Johnston Bunch. The problem here is that there are so many John Sullivans. I can not recall the name but think it was Talton, where Jonathan was brought to court for having a base born child. My Russell stood as his bond. In another base born case, Jonathan stood for Russell's bond. This more than suggest a relationship but doesn't prove what the relationship is. The ages of each points towards them being brothers but without proof, that is only a good guess. Take care. Hi Gail! It's been a couple of years since we've been in touch but I have not researched Jonathan. I remember that Jesse is buried in Nahunta, which is in Wayne and his wife Priscilla is on later census records in Johnston Co. When she died, she was buried next to Jesse in Nahunta. I think Jesse's family lived in Johnston Co but at least two on their kids married into the Edgerton Family in Wayne, so they must have lived close to the county line. This would also explain why they are buried in Nahunta. As to Jonathan, Zelda Wood descends from him and she did a very good job recording his family, which I accept as correct. Oh Mike , I just saw a note about Jonathan Sullivan being father of Idrell and Joann Talton children of Zelphia.. the only problem is no one can connect these to the same Zelphia . Records show two "maybe " living in both counties 'one in one census then another year in next county... anyway very confusing and sure would like to find something out.. Did Jonathan father more Talton children ? Gail

I have the book the history of Johnston Co. NC. will be glad to do look ups. Josiah Sullivan b. 1803 in Johnston Co. was the son of John and Martha Sullivan. In 1815 court minutes he was placed in the care of Jesse Sullivan to learn the art of farming until the age of 21 because he was an ophran. Dot donegan477@aol.com

Thanks Dot but let me clarify my first post just a little. The Court record that you posted about does say that Josiah was an orphan son of John and Martha Sillivant and that Josiah was bound to Jesse. Now this Jesse also stood bond for Russell as did Jonathan. These four men plus an older John is listed on the 1830 Johnston census. In 1835, Russell moved to AL. Josiah and a younger John (Not on the census) move with him and join a William Harrison Sullivant in Noxubee Co. MS as per the 1840 Census. Jesse and Jonathan stay in NC. The thing I've found interesting is that later census records for these men say that they were all born in NC and that their parents were born in NC. The only parents known were the John and Martha for Josiah. No body can prove who the parents were for anyone else, thus no one can prove the relationship of these men. I figure the odds are in my favor that somebody knows something or will find some record some day. Meanwhile, all I can do is keep loo! king and keep asking. Thanks and take care. On the 1850 NC Census for Wayne co. is listed Household 252 Larry Sullivan age 23 farmer Mary 27 The only Sullivan family for Wayne Co on the 1850 census.
