While on the subject. I would like to know if Sarah Caroline Stevens was the sister to Charity E. Stevens who married James Richard Park Daniel A. Cogdell married Mary R. or [A] Barfield sister to my GG-grandfather Solomon John Barfield and daughter of John Barfield and Nancy Flowers. I too, have the same book Roots, Seeds, and Other Things. It was also handed down to me that in the Cogdell Family John S. Cogdell born 1816 and married Sarah Caroline Stevens born 1818. Had eight children: 1. Mary Pauline Cogdell Born 7/27/1837 2. Daniel A. Cogdell bor December 22, 1838 3. Lewis Marion Cogdell D: 1862 died at Gettysburg 4. William B. Cogdell D: 1862 died at Gettysburg 5. John A. Cogdell [1844-1923] C.S.A. Gettsburg, married first, Fanny McCullen [D 7/21/1876] daughter of Calvin J. & Amy Ann [Cogdell] McCullen. They married 12/22/1867 at the home of Stephen Cogdell. 6. Needham Claudis Cogdell [1846 - 1925] 7. Sarah Ann Cogdell [4/5/1848 - 1849] 8. Chappel McClure [Chap] Cogdell [10/28/1849 - 10/3/1920] Following the death of John S. Cogdell, Sarah C. [Stevens] Cogdell B:1818 married, Willis Cole [B: 1832] of Wayne Co., NC. Their children were: Julius A. Cole B: 4/27/1858; Amanda C. Cole [B: 6/1/1860]. [Some fo the Lewis Cogdell family data is taken from the Bible of Mary R. [Barfield] Cogdell, which is now in the possession of Mrs. Merl McClenny. June cpzb4@aol.com

A. William appears as the son of Caroline Cogdell of Wayne County in 1850. A Lewis appears as the son of David and Sarah Cogdell in the Wayne County 1850 census. They do not seem to be brothers, just looking at the census. I did not find Parker on the 1830 census. I did find him on the 1840 and 1850 census. Isaac J. Nowell and Abraham Clark Nowell were brothers. Isaac moved to Texas and Abraham stayed in Missouri. Abraham was killed in the 1840's. William Nowell is a mystery. Some of the Nowell's probably moved to the Houston area. You can find my family tree on Ancestry.com. I wish that I could help you. Airport is off 117 business, just above Belfast. From Airport Road you turn left, and the cemetery is on the left side of the road maybe a mile down. Also note that Wayne County NC has some good cemetery books and a wonderful room in the downtown library with a good genealogy collection. Hope this helps.
Ran across this record that doesn't give the county but the Everett name is a Wayne name - if anyone has knowledge of these family members, please advise "An Act to legitimate James Smith, Milley Smith, Unice Smith, and for other purposes. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of North Carolina, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That James Smith, Milley Smith, and Unice Smith, illegitimate children of Love Smith, by John Everett, the reputed father, shall hereafter be called and known by the name of James Everett, Milley Everett and Unice Everett, and by these names only shall they be known, and in these names shall they sue and be sued, plead, and be pleaded. II. And be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid, That the said James Everett, Milley Everett, and Unice Everett, shall be entitled to all the rights, privileges and immunities as though they had been born in lawful wedlock, and as such shall be able to inherit and to transmit inheritances, to all intents and purposes as though they had been born in lawful wedlock as aforesaid; any law, usage or custom to the contrary, notwithstanding."
