    1. [NCWAYNE] CAPPS of N.C.
    2. Found these grave sites on a recent trip to N.C. They are located about a mile from Jordan's Chapel Church in Mt. Olive, N.C. (border of Sampson/Wayne county line). On the right side of the road under some large trees. Just off the highway. I think the Capps use to own this land because it is a family cemetery with only a few graves. (they may still own it??) Anyway, here are a list of the grave sites there. James Abraham Capps born 9-17-1862 died 8-30-1936 Edith Jane Capps (wife of James) born 8-7-1865 died 9-27-1940 W. Paul Capps born 5-26-1891 died 11-29-1946 Lizzie Britt Capps born 8-29-1893 died 9-9-1982 Hope these help someone. Pam

    3. I'd like to encourage everyone that is researching in Wilson County to stop by the Wilson County NCGenWeb site's surname pages. I've posted a lot of researchers and some new surnames so it's possible you might make a connection with someone. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncwilson/surnames/howtosur.htm (at the bottom of the page you can view the surname register & index and researcher profiles) Thanks! 1. [NCWAYNE] RE: Marriage Bonds complaint
    2. This is mainly directed to Dianne "[email protected] since she wants to speak so rudely of me...... First I do not charge for you to look and see if your surname is even in the index pages.....I have done this as a favor to all my other friends in the genealogy world. In this way they don't have to waste their time looking at tiny print and trying to get to a machine. If they choose to get a copy from me that is fine. So maybe you should go back and read the e-mail and look at the web page again. I am sorry I cannot just send them for free (I have not won the lottery yet) I charge a whole $1.00 to cover ink, envelope, postage, paper. I have received hundreds of letters thanking me for my time and efforts. But as usual there are a few in the crowd that are not happy so I would like to quote one of my internet friends as saying " Some people would complain if you hung them with a new rope" With or without your blessings I will continue to help others. In conclusion I would like to set the record straight about my gender and who I am. I am a single mother of 2 boys who does not have the time or the inclination to deal with people who have nothing better to do than think they are better than most

    3. J. Altenoff is charging for his lookups. This isn't exactly made clear in his "announcement" that has been slathered over all the state and county lists. There is an alternative, the free database at http://tn-3.rootsweb.com/~marce/bmd/search.cgi built on user contributions. It already includes many records that are recorded in the NC marriage bonds and licenses, but also has records that come from church, Bible and family records and don't appear in the bond lists. There are more than 20,000 records already in this database, and it's growing rapidly. (Send your contributions and help it grow, if you haven't already.) The microfiche bond records are available at the LDS family history centers. You can check on-line at the web site http://www.familysearch.org to see if a particular bond is included in the fiche, and get the bond number if it is, although you can't get all the information about bondsmen and witnesses from this. Just wanted to clarify that the Altenoff lookup site is not free. Diana Wayne County, NCGenWeb

    1. [NCWAYNE] Marriage Bonds
    2. I have created a web page for Marriage Bond Index of NC 1741-1868 <A HREF="http://marriagebondofnc.homestead.com/Home.html">marriagebondofNC </A> http://marriagebondofnc.homestead.com/Home.html This page is not complete and will not be complete for several months. There are over 8,000 Bride and 8,000 Groom microfilm pages that list all marriage bonds for all counties of NC. I will add new surnames weekly so please don't get discouraged if you do not see the surname you are looking for. I have discovered that once you obtain the Index page that you are looking for it is easier to contact the NC Archives and get a copy of the original Marriage Bond. If you would like a specific Surname added to the page you may send me an e-mail and I will put that name on my list to add ASAP. All I ask is that you send one e-mail per Surname. You may send as many Surnames as you like, but please do so separately so that I may easily alphabetize my list that I take with me. In the Subject area put MB of NC (this will get my attention) In the body of the e-mail type the surname you would like added in ALL CAPS. Best of Luck to you all in your search for your ancestors. 3. Hello List, This is my first posting here. I am trying to find anyone who may have family information on General Cadmus Marcellus Wilcox(Civil War). I am not looking for information on his military acomplishments, I have plenty of info on that. I am trying to determine who his father was. I know that he was born in Wayne Co. May 29,1824 and that he was about 2y/o when his father moved him to Tennessee. I know that he had a brother John who died during the war, leaving a widow and 2children behind and Gen.Wilcox provided a home for them and saw after them after the war. I know that he was never married himself. If anyone knows anything of his father/mother and where in Tennessee they moved to. I will be very thankful. Thanks, Dana Hughes-Hunnicutt

    3. A good source on what records were kept and when is Ancestry's Redbook. It lists information by state and by county, showing what types of records are available on a county level. The tables also show the main parent county and date of creation. Very helpful for us out of state researchers. Deborah Byrd

    1. [NCWAYNE] birth records
    2. Joanne Harley
    3. N.C. did not require births to be recorded until 1913 according to my information. Before that, it might have been recorded in a family bible. Sometimes a letter to the local county courthouse probate judges office or register of deeds might point you in the right direction. Have you tried going on line to see if Wayne Co. has any public offices on a web site? Good luck. Wayne Co. is hard to search. 3. Kathryn, If this person applied for Social Security, he may have also had to obtain a delayed birth certificate. My father did this in the early 60's. I remember how frustrating it was for him. He had to find either two or three people that could verify his birth. Pretty tough when everybody is dead! But he had to have a birth certificate to to get SS. You might try obtaining his SS records.
