My Barnes ancestors came here with the materials for the original Cape Henry Lighthouse in what is now Va Beach, Va. After building of lighthouse, one finally settled in NC and went west to what is now Wayne County, the other in southeast Virginia. I am missing generations from original lighthouse builders to John Barnes born in Norfolk Co, Va 1820, married Frances (Webb) Cowling in 1848, died 1863 Richmond, Va. His son, Walter Henry Barnes who later married Annie Baker of Goldsboro, was a baker there and lived in corner house on James Street before it was torn down for church parking lot. His son, Leander Walter Barnes, born and died in Durham area married Hattie BARBEE. His son and my father, Walter Leander Barnes born there but moved to Virginia. Looking for Barnes and Barbee cousins prior to trip to Durham area. Margaret (Barnes) Stroud in Va
Most if not all BOYETTE/BOYETT/BOYT's are all related in NC. The first recorded BOYT was Thomas BOYT in Virginia. In the 1700's the family moved into NC and spread out. From NC the family split in major areas, TN, SC, GA, FL, TX. but all come from our immigrant ancestor Thomas BOYT. Thank you for the info. I will check my records. Rosemarie, it sounds as if you must be researching Micajah Casey. If so, I do have a little information on him. In fact, I visited the Casey Family Cemetery in Cliffs of Neuse State Park back in 1990 or 91. The cemetery is deep in the woods and a Park Ranger took me there in his pick-up truck and then we had to walk through the woods for about a 1/4 mile. All the old markers were cedar posts and some were missing or laying on the ground. There were a few stone memorials--one of Wright Casey whom I believe was the last Casey to be buried there. I spoke to his widow. The Ranger also showed me where the plantation house probably stood--it was near the public swimming beach on the Neuse River. I am descended from Jeremiah Casey, who also lived south of the Neuse. I have not been able to connect him to Micajah but they are close enough in age to be brothers. Somewhere I have a note that Micajah's father was William Casey, also of Wayne County. How is your research coming? If you have information on Micajah Sr.'s father and mother I would certainly like to have it. Jeremiah was born in 1754 and my group of Casey Researchers would certainly like to know where he was born, his parents, and his country of origin. Please email me at [email protected] if you want to share information. My name is Billie Casey Brundage. I sign off as BillieB

Day and date calculator - see what day your ancestor was born on or what day of the week you were born. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nc/filemanagers/calendar.htm Wayne County Archives would like to have your contributed files, deeds, bible records, wills, things shown in the various categories. If you have the time and interest, let me know and I will help you out on what to do. Records in copyright cannot be used without the permission of the record holder. I, too, am looking to Wayne county for some of my family. I am an ALFORD descendant and have been able to trace my family back only to Axum/Exum ALFORD b. abt 1788 Franklin Co but with son Henry Hardy ALFORD and wife Emily Milly POPE daughter of Enos POPE of Wayne Co., in Kenly, Johnston Co., as late as 1887. The following portions of the will of Lodowich ALFORD lead me to believe that my Axum/Exum ALFORD might possibly be a son of this Lodowich. Can anyone identify any of the persons mentioned in theses extracts or name any of the children of Lodowick and Polly? Any help will be greatly appreciated! "This 1st day of December One thousand eight hundred and thirteen I Lodowich Alford of the County of Wayne and State of North Carolina.... First I lend to my dearly beloved wife Polley Alford all of my smithwick lands.... I desire that what property that I have which is in Benjamin Alford's Sr's hands should be given to Elizabeth Bunting Daughter of the said Benja Alford's wife who was formerly Lucretia Edwards. ...swamp joining of Samuel Perkins and Wm Musgrove land should be so managed as not to injure me nor my heirs, but to be for the use of Nathan Pike and his heirs. At the same time I do appoint Mr. Nathan Pike and Mr. John Dunn of the county and state aforesaid joint execrs of this my last will and testament...." Thanks. -- ROB Robert G. My gg-grandmother Anne Boyett Howell's parents came from Wayne County to the Gibson County area of Tenn about 1824. They were Caleb Howell, son of Archilous Howell, and Cela/Sela Boyt, daughter of Thomas Boyt Jr and Elizabeth "Betsy" Howell. I live in Sardis, MS. Anne married Jordan Dickson/Dixon, whose father John Dickson apparently was in the Moore and Franklin Co., NC area. Have not been able to place him in Wayne. Joyce Dixon Helmers
