There are many "home made" quilts for sale on ebay. Just be careful when they say handstitched, as sometimes this is just the design on the quilt. You can see a picture, and ask questions before you bid however. Most home made quilts are very expensive, especially in antique shops. Just a thought for you. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Guy Potts" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, January 06, 2002 10:59 PM Subject: [NCWAYNE] Homemaid Quilts > Does anyone know anyone who still makes homemade quilts ? > > I need two... > > Guy > > > ==== NCWAYNE Mailing List ==== > Wayne County, North Carolina NCGenWeb > http://www.betterthanmost.com/wayne/ > > > ============================== > To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: > http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237 > >
Deborah, The usgennet is a server. It hosts USGenWeb sites just like Rootsweb, geocities/yahoo and all the many other free servers. I chose it because it is a nonprofit corporation unlike Rootsweb which is owned by Ancestry.com. The USGenWeb Project is a all volunteer project which allows the hostess to choose servers. Rootsweb has lists set up for every county. That does not mean that they are the official list of the USGenWeb Project for all counties. In the case of Wayne County, they are not the official list. Yes it is a duplication of effort. Rootsweb should delete their list so that it won't be confusing to people that visit the Wayne County USGenWeb Project. The rootsweb list is owned and maintained by rootsweb so I have no control over deleting it. Hence my invitation for everyone to join the Official Wayne County list. Thank you! From the the addy on your web page, it appears that the new list is part of Gennet and not US Gen Web and I assume that the new list would be part of that project also. It isn't it a duplication of efforts? Deborah Byrd

The service records are from the National Archives and Records Administration in Washington DC. You have to have forms from them to ask for these (or did the last time I did) but I think now you can get the forms from their web site, that is order them as they are a 3 part form that couldn't be downloaded unless they have changed. They did cost $10. but think they have gone up to $17.00, it's probably on the web site too. www.nara.gov The service records will show when they enlisted, roll calls or hospital stays, wounded etc. and sometimes discharged. The pensions are from the state in which they were living when they applied, after 1900-1910. It seems the law went into effect 1910. If they were CSA you can get them from the state but if they were Union there is another place to order. I can find this out, but do not know off hand. A cousin ordered the Parks in TN. Many counties have their roster of enlisted on their site, but there are lots of Civil War regiment sites. Have been to some but didn't bookmark. Maybe a Civil war buff can help with this. Thanks Cathy, I knew they had furlough's but never thought of that. Thanks Michelle :-)
Rose, How did you find that out? Michelle :-)
The CSA records in GA said they deserted and an older lady in the family said she knew her grandmother received a pension, so she started checking other records and found the 2 brothers in TN. My husband's ancestor had a "different" given name and was easier to locate. Sure enough, they both received pensions from the Union. My husband's gg-Grandmother said he had not served in the CSA, but I found records that he and his brother both did. Did not get his brothers pension. I am sure they had to lie to get the pension, and guess she really needed it. Some other of my family said in documents that the CSA forced them to enlist and I am sure the Union did the same. While I was reading my great-grandfather's civil war documents, my husband pointed out to me that many of the men left to tend to their fields and crops. They could not let their famies go hungry. While the family at home could care for the crops in growing stages, they needed help in the planting and harvesting seasons. My great-grandfather deserted, for a month or so at a time but always came back to the same unit. He also lived long enough to draw a pension for his war time service. We always wondered how there were babies born to them during his war time service. -Cathy Rose Parks wrote: > I found my husband's Parks ancestors in GA deserted their CSA unit, but went to TN and joined a Union Company. > Rose >
