    1. Re: [NCWATAUG] Pocahontas & Charlemagne connection
    2. Hi everyone on the Wautauga list: I usually don't contribute because I don't have anybody in our line that you talk about. If anyone knows anything about Brice Russell/ Hugh or Jane Thompson/ or any Birdwells, those are my folks. I think. The first thing I learned about genealogy is nothing is written in stone. We just get hints here and there and until DNA there was no real way to prove Great granddad didn't meet some likely wench out behind the woodshed or where ever. And it is definitely a tapestry of thousands, maybe millions of threads. As someone said before, it gets up into the high numbers pretty quickly. The real reason I'm writing is about the Charlemagne line. Grandpa Charley, I call him. My line descends directly from Thomas Wingfield in early Virginia and supposedly the Wingfields were descended from the Plantagenet royalty(one of which was the bad King John we heard so much about in Robin Hood.)and from there to Grandpa charley. There is now some dispute! as to whether any Wingfields imigrated to America so the limb is shaky and speaking for our British cousins nonexistent. That is what I mean about nothing in stone. However, I prefer to believe. And it is a lot of fun to read the list that we might have come from(that is IF everybody was legitamate and always told the truth) Of course we know that's not true. Anyhow, I find genealogy fascinating and fun but not to be taken completely seriously, like my golf game. Happy hunting!
