    3. Hi all, I have been busy putting together the information I've gathered on my Boyd line from Russell Co., VA. I found that my great-great aunt, Melissa A. Boyd, b. 1848 in Russell Co., married an Adam Grimsley born 1849 in Ashe Co. I found him on the 1850 census for Ashe (at Ancestry.com), in the household of Nelson and Rebecca Grimsley. Adam and Melissa are found on the 1880 census for Russell. His brother, Thomas, was there with his own family, too. Adam and Melissa had two boys, Robert Winnie b. 1875 and Thomas K. (spelled Tonas on his tombstone) b. 19 Dec 1873. That census year, Robert W. was living with his parents (age 5), but Tomas age 7 was living in the household of his grandfather, Jonathan Boyd. By 1892, the two boys and Melissa had died, she from "typhoid fever" in Jan 1891, Winnie hanged himself in 1883 at age 8 (accident?), and Thomas K. Boyd (Grimsley) died 30 Dec 1891 at age 18 of "spotted fever." I believe Thomas/Tonas and his mother MIGHT have been living with his grandfather, since the death record says the death was reported by his grandfather Jonathan "HOF" (head of the family). That's just a hunch. His grandfather died 4 months later, at age 92. I want to know what happened to Adam. I cannot find him in any state on the 1900 census. I haven't found him in the death records of Russell County. If you have any clues, I would be grateful if you would share. Some of the Grimsleys lived in Watauga County in 1850, but I will also be writing to the Ashe County message board, since the district noted on the 1850 census was "southeast district" of Ashe.
