    3. > Here's something new! Below is the web site and notes I took for Henry Clay Green. He rode with the Rough Riders, but unfortunately was killed in action. Henry Clay Green was b. Aug 22, 1868 in Meat Camp; d. Jul 1, 1898 at the Battle of San Juan Hill. He is the s/o Richard C. Greene (b. Feb 4, 1847 Ashe co.; d. Nov 29, 1906 in Los Cerrillos, Santa Fe Co., NM) and Mary Caroline Lewis (b. Aug 23, 1848 Meat Camp; d. May 5, 1932 in Los Angeles, CA) Richard and Mary had 13 kids; moved the family to NM. Richard is the s/o Larkin Greene Sr and Mary Greene while Mary Caroline Lewis is the d/o Christen Lewis and Nancy Miller. If you have other relatives that rode with Roosevelt, the records for this group are all on line at the National Archives. When you type in the link it will take you to a page that says timed out, but has a yellow search button. Click it and on the next page you'll see a box in the upper left type in spanish american War and volunteer and Green The next page will list all who rode with the last name of Green. Henry is about the 3rd person down the list. If you have other relatives who rode with Roosevelt, just change the last name OR just type in Spanish American War and volunteer. Enjoy! His group left from Tampa, Florida on June 14, and arrived in Cuba the next day. He died on July 1st from a bullet wound in the chest while serving with Roosevelt during the first charge up San Juan Hill. #4 states Private in Company E. Mustered in on May 6, 1898 in Santa Fe, NM. He was 6 feet 2 inches tall, dark complection; grey eyes; dark brown hair. His occupation is listed as an engineer. It is also noted that he has a tattoo HCG on his right forearm. He was killed at San Juan Heights; July 1, 1898.
