    3. 1. This is in reference to the David Miller s/o Wm. Miller. The list for the children of David and Elizabeth Norris Miller, from D. E. Miller lists Ephriam Miller b November 10, 1823. I have Ephriam married to Mary Isaacs d/o Richard and Lillianna Swift Isaacs. My notes on this are as follows: 1850 Watauga Co., NC Census; Listed Mary age 22. FTM-WFT Vol., 6 # 3568 Watauga County Heritage, NC Vol. I Art. 440; Names Ephriam Miller as son of David Miller and Elizabeth Norris dau./of John Norris. David is the son of William and Mary "Polly" Eldridge/Aldridge Miller. This Miller family moved to Meat Camp abt 1783 in what was then Wilkes Co., NC, but would later be in the Watauga Co., NC area near Boone. Although this article names Mary Isaacs as the second wife of Ephriam Miller, there is only one Mary Isaacs that would fit this age group and time as far as I know. So I have put her as the wife of Ephriam Miller. I may be wrong. Too, the first wife is named Katherine Woodring, so I suspect that some of these children would be hers. 1860 Watauga County Census, Compiled by Carl A. Ross, Jr., household #429; Mary age 33 1870 Watauga County Census, Compiled by Carl A. Ross, Jr., Meat Camp Twp., household #22; Mary age 44 1880 Watauga County Census, Compiled by Carl A. Ross, Jr., Meat Camp Twp., Household # 70; Mary age 52 head of household My direct line also includes ancestors Matthias Carpenter and his spouse Elizabeth Miller, d/o Christian Miller. As you will note, this family also lived in the Meat Camp area. These are my notes for this couple: The book, "The Miller Families of Ashe Co., NC, by Danny l. Miller. Page 227 Christian and Veronica with children came from PA to NC in 1752, settling on Deep Creek, NC. This area is now in Yadkin Co., NC. Christian had a plantation according to Moravian Records. Surry Co., NC Wills, 1771-1827, by Jo White Linn. Will Book 3:18a. Christian's will was written on 14 April 1785 in Surry Co., NC. 1784 State Census of Surry Co. on pg. 152: Jacob Miller - 1WM 21-60, 3WM -21 or 60+, 4 EF Christian Miller-1WM 21-60, 3 WM -21 or 60 +, 1WF Matthias Capeter [sic, Carpenter] - 1 WM 21-60, 1 WM -21 or 60+, 3 WF A Christian is shown on the 1784-1787 State Census of Wilkes Co., NC in Capt. Wright's Dist.--Pg. 1. In a ltr. dtd. 15 Oct 1990 from a certified genealogist, Mrs. Stahle Linn Jr., of Salisbury, NC shows the following on the 1782 State Tax List of Surry Co. on pg. 62: with 3 horses, 8 coes, and 300 A on Deep Creek. Also, in the same letter it shows that John and Jacob Miller, and Matthias Carpenter were on the 1774 Surry Co. Tax List, but not Christian Miller. Christian may have been exempt from the poll tax because of his age. John and Jacob, but not Christian Miller or Matthias Carpenter, appear on the 1772 Surry Co., NC Tax List. LDC; Article mentions Christian Miller, a Moravian of Rowan Co., (around Muddy Creek in what is now Davidson Co., NC.) he later settled in Surry Co.'; his will written in April of 1785, is probated in that county. It appears that his wife predeceased him. Christian had four children to survive his death; Jacob, Mary (who was married to a Davis), Catherine and Elizabeth. This Elizabeth Miller was m to Matthias Carpenter, and she may be the lady shown on the first of these pages as his wife. Certainly, she was the mother of two of the children shown on that page. (These are the children I have listed for Matthias and Elizabeth Carpenter: Frances Maria Carpenter 1771 m (1) ? Weatherman (2) William Davis Matthias Carpenter, Jr. 1777 Jacob Carpenter, abt 1779 Margaret Carpenter b 1784 m Jonathan Miller b 1776 s/o Johannes Miller (John Muller) Notes for Johannes Miller below: Mathias Carpenter & family lived on Deep Creek (Millers Settlement) then Surry Co. now Yadkin Co. until about 1796, when they moved to then Wilkes Co. (Ashe Co. in 1799) on Staggs or Stages Creek. He was one of the first landowners in Ashe Co. His name was in Book 1 of the Register's Office. The first deed was registered on 3 Oct 1799. Source: The book, "Ashe Co. A History", by Arthur L. Fletcher.A list of 19 Deed transactions as recorded in the Ashe Co., NC Deeds Recordings beginning with the year 1802 and ending with the year 1835. Both Matthias and his wife died in abt 1835. Notes for Johannes Miller/Mueller LDC'; Article states that Johannes (John) Muller was b in PA. His parents came from Bergelbach, Hesse-Nassau (Frankfurt is in this area). His wife was also b in PA. Her mother's first name was Maria. LDC has not been able to establish her father's first name. He was referred to simply as "Old Faber" in the NC Moravian records. The date of his buriel was March 21, 1778. (The Fabers apparently came from PA to NC in their old age to stay with their daughter and son-in-law.) After marriage the Johannes Mullers first settled on the New River in VA, then came to Bethabara in Forsyth Co., because of the Indian troubles. Next they went to Davidson Co., NC around Muddy Creek, where he believes their graves to be. Those records are probably in the Rowan Co., NC files. LDC; in Article written on the Mullers/Millers. Gives date of birth for Jonathan. Gives date of death as 9 Feb 1780. Johannes and Maria Faber Miller/Mueller had at least two sons according to my source, twins. Jonathan Miller b 12-28, 1776 and David Miller. Notes for Jonathan b 1776 m Margaret Carpenter d/o Matthias: I have nothing more on the brother of Jonathan b 1776. Jonathan led to the establishment of the Flat Rock Church of the Brethren in Ashe Co., NC in 1802. Up until this time all of Johannes family were members of the Moravians, but Jonathan changed. Jonathan and Margaret Carpenter Miller's daughter Sarah married a John Miller. This couple moved to IN, according to research done by Danny Miller.
