Hi, I am looking for Amanda STEEN and her parents. I do not think they were in Grayson Co. very long. I have a note of a 1828 Personal property Tax list with Joseph STEEN on it. Amanda STEEN md. in Scott Co. 1860 and gave Grayson Co., VA as her place of birth. This Joseph may have been her father. But I believe they left Grayson Co. about 1840. I have not been able to find a 1840 Grayson Co. census to check. But there is a matching Joseph STEEN in Watauga Co., NC in the 1850-60 census. There are no other records I have found. Hi Eddie, There is a Stean mentioned in this index of the 1840 census for Grayson, which points to page 317 of the census, but I haven't found that census anywhere online yet. One would think, if there's an index for it, it would be there somewhere, but I sure can't find it. You could order it for $20 on CD from S-K Publications. http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/va/grayson/census/1840indx.txt Watauga was Ashe County in 1840. Have you ruled out their residence as Ashe Co. for that census? Michelle
