Hello: I am researching my line "Ray's" who I believe come from this area or close to it...Watauga. My GGGrandfather is /was James Ray...I am told he was born around 1760 to 1780... James Ray had 600 acres of land , I believe from Revolutionary War. James Ray moves to Halifax County, Virginia and buys 400 acres of land (Shady Grove)...Black Walnut District. I am told he was married to Elinore Hensley and may have been married to Mary Polly Younger. His son, Sion (Simon) Ray is my line...he married Sarah UNK. His son John Aaron Ray is my Grandfather who married Ruth Dorcus Grant (daughter of James Grant and Elizabeth W. Grant). I was wondering if anyone can help me with James Ray and Elinore Hensley from 1760-1780(guessing years). I can go as far back to James Ray (after he moved to Halifax County, Virginia and he died "falling from a horse" . Sion (Simon) Ray was born in 1815...Halifax County, Virginia. Searching for information on James Ray prior to him moving to Virginia. His father may be William Ray. Any help is appreciated.
