    1. Heritage Books as a Resource
    2. Referring to the comment from Sharon regarding Heritage Books, genealogists should not overlook them as a good source of information. They have been very helpful to me in finding some relatives and making connections. I served on the committee which compiled the Bedford County Virginia Heritage Book 2003, and have also submitted articles to the Amherst and Campbell County Virginia Heritage Books. The following is an excerpt from an article in the Campbell County VA Heritage Book 2003 written by me, published on page 267 of the book: "In the early 1920s, many families left western North Carolina, primarily Watauga County, and settled in central Virginia in Campbell County, Lynchburg, and Bedford County. Among the very first was Claude Lafayette Wilson (February 15, 1901-July 26, 1991) with his bride Chloe Mary Lawrence Wilson (October 28, 1906-January 8, 1986). They married on November 25, 1921 in Trade, Tennessee, and moved to Virginia in 1922. Zachary Taylor Isaacs (July 24, 1868-March 18, 1946) and his wife, Julia Price Isaacs (April 10, 1869-April 26, 1951) had moved to Campbell County from Watauga County N C prior to 1920. Their daughter, Verna, married James Fowlkes, a widower, on August 29, 1921 in Campbell County. While they were all visiting North Carolina, Mr. Fowlkes asked Claude Wilson to come to Virginia to work on his farm in Bedford County, near Forest, in the area known today as Everett Road. Chloe’s uncle, John Lawrence, and his family were already living in Campbell County, in the Rustburg district. The subsequent migration from western North Carolina and eastern Tennessee to this region included such family surnames as: Eggers, Bumgarner, Grogan, McGuire, Cullers, Winebarger, Watson, Parsons, Greene and others, in addition to Wilson, Lawrence and Isaacs, and many of their descendants still live here." I have been helped by Sharon and Sanna in my Watauga research. Amy
