    1. Davis / Phillips connection in Watauga County?

    3. Given the many new participants in this forum... I would like to throw out a query. ** *My question is about Willam Floyd Davis,* Born August 29, 1869 in Watauga County, NC, died August 17, 1948 in Columbia, SC. Buried at Old Mt. Pleasant in the Meat Camp Area. This individual has been a "black hole" with virtually no information known about him. My grandmother (and his daughter Wille Belle Davis Moretz) refused to talk about him to anyone (her children indicated they tried to ask questions about him and would receive no answers). His granddaughter and my mother remembered him, but knew no family information about him. He married *Flora Isabelle Moretz* who was born April 25, 1873 in Watauga County, Boone, NC, and died March 04, 1954 in Watauga County, Boone, NC. She was the daughter of Timothy Moretz and Rebecca Caroline Woodring. After years of research: 1. It appears his mother was Relzora or Belzora Davis (name varies by record - who was a twin). 2. The 1880 Census of Watauga County, Bald Mt. Dist., NC lists Relzora H. Davis, age 37 in William H. Phillips home. Also shown in home is W. F Davis (William Floyd?) age 9 and R. M. Phillips age 6. 3. If this is my GGF, the ages are right. And if he was illegitimate, that would explain the secrecy of his family. 4. Also, there is a verbal history that his daughter harbored "hard feelings" toward the Phillips family. I would like to confirm or discount this track... Does anyone have any information on a Davis / Phillips connection in Watauga County.
