Service, 2nd Lieutenant, Watauga Company, 98th Regiment of North Carolina Militia. (Rothrewood [sic] area). Death 1890. Burial: Unknown. 2. William Green. Father: Adam Green, Mother: Rebecca Adams. Born c. 1840, in Ashe County, North Carolina. Spouse: Unknown. Occupation, Farmer. Living in the Beaver Dam township in 1860. Enlisted in the "Watauga Minute Men" on September 18, 1861. The Minute men become Company E, 37th North Carolina Troops on November 20, 1861. Mustered in as a private. Promoted to corporal on April 14, 1862. Captured on May 27, 1862, at the battle of Hanover Court House, Virginia. Confined at Fort Columbus, New York Harbor. Paroled and transferred to Aiken's Landing, James River, Virginia, where he was received on July 12, 1862, for exchange. Declared exchanged at Aiken's Landing on August 5, 1862. Returned to duty in November-December 1862. Promoted to Sergeant on February 1, 1863. Wounded at Chancellorsville, Virginia, May 1-4, 1863. Died in hospital at or near Richmond, Virginia, on or about May 16, 1863. Cause of death not reported. Burial place: Unknown. 3. William Green. Parents: Unknown. Born c.1839. Location: Unknown.
