Florence Hodges Clevenger Mrs. Florence Hodges Clevenger, 96, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, was called to her heavenly Home Thursday morning, Feb. 23, 2006, at Gateway Nursing Center in Lenoir. She was born Jan. 10, 1910 in Watauga County, a daughter of the late Millard and Harriett Hodges. Mrs. Clevenger was a homemaker and attended the North Lenoir Church of God. Survivors include two daughters, Christine Teague of Lenoir and Mary Coffey and husband, Alvin, of Blowing Rock; two sons, D.A. Pitts and wife, Geraldine, of Mount Vernon, Ill. and Eddie Coffey and wife, Thelma, of Lenoir; one sister, Mrs. Beulah Jaynes of Lenoir; two brothers, Ralph Hodges of Belmont and Lee "Jack" Hodges of Mission, Kansas. Thirteen grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Roy Alexander Pitts; her second husband, Alex Clevenger; one son, Roy Pitts, Jr.; one grandson; one granddaughter; three great-granddaughters; and one brother, Clarence Hodges. Services were conducted Saturday afternoon, Feb. 25, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating were Bishop Charles Atkins, Bishop Dennis R. Pitts, Chaplin Steve Butler, Pastor Michael Merritt, and Deb Gengo. Burial followed in Woodlawn Cemetery in Blowing Rock. Memorial contributions may be made to the North Lenoir Church Of God, Wakefield Drive, Lenoir, N.C. 28645. Hampton Funeral Service is in charge the arrangements.
