June Hampton Stamey Mrs. June Hampton Stamey, 72, of 302 East King Street, Boone, died Monday, Feb. 27, 2006, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. She was born June 2, 1933 in Watauga County, a daughter of the late Monroe and Lelia Greene Hampton. She and her husband Buford were retired restaurant owners of Stamey’s Drive-In in Boone. Mrs. Stamey was a member and Sunday School Teacher at Three Forks Baptist Church. She is survived by one daughter, Teresa Lentz and husband, Terry, of Blowing Rock; four sons, Edward Stamey of Boone, Harvey Stamey and wife, Mary, of Hickory, Michael Stamey and wife, Tamara, of Boone, and Chris Stamey and wife, Betsy, of Orange Park, Fla.; five grandsons, Christopher Stamey of South Lake Tahoe, Calif., Jonathan Stamey and Chris Chapin, both of Raleigh, Andrew Chapin and Jackson Stamey, both of Hickory; eight granddaughters, Tamara Stamey of South Lake Tahoe, Calif., Jennifer Chapin of Hickory, Tara Lentz and Tracy Lentz, both of Blowing Rock, Lauren Stamey and Kellyn Stamey, both of Boone, Caitlynn Stamey and Kendall Stamey, both of Orange Park, Fla.; one sister, Betty Jones and husband, Dean, of Boone; two brothers, Allen Hampton and wife, Opal, and Barney Hampton and wife, Tommie, all of Boone; four sisters-in-law, Effie Hampton of Boone, Patsy Lovell and husband, Lamar, of Taylorsville, Edith Owens of Elgin, S.C., and Faye Hampton of DeLand, Fla. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Buford Stamey; two sisters, Nouel Underwood and Marie Critcher, and four brothers, Guy, Shorty, Dan, and John Hampton. Services were conducted Thursday afternoon, March 2, at 2 p.m., at Three Forks Baptist Church. Officiating was the Rev. Homer Greene and the Rev. Gordon Noble. Burial followed in Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Three Forks Baptist Church, 1922 U.S. Highway 421 South, Boone, N.C. 28607.
