Rebecca “Jo” Eude Hodges Proffitt Mrs. Rebecca "Jo" Eude *Hodges* *Proffitt*, 77, of 2074 Old U.S. Highway 421, Vilas, died Monday, Feb. 27, 2006, at Watauga Medical Center. She was born Feb. 14, 1929, in Caldwell County. Mrs. Proffitt was a homemaker and attended Henson’s Chapel United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband, Charles Proffitt; two sons, Robert Garry Proffitt and wife, Dorothy Hamilton, and Dennis Proffitt, all of Vilas; one daughter, Betty Sue Jackson and husband, Terry, of Vilas; two grandsons, David Proffitt of Vilas, and Brian Jackson, of Buies Creek, N.C.; one granddaughter, Rebecca Proffitt of Chapel Hill; seven sisters, Edna Lee Hodges Herman and husband, William, of Charlotte, Helen Perry and husband, Thom, and Eloise Cornett and husband, Bud, all of Valle Crucis, Carol Jean Greer and husband, Ronald, of Conover, Sandra Gail McGuire and husband, Baxter, of Mountain City, Tenn., Peggy Gilliam of Vilas, and Cathy Shell and husband, Ed, of Elk Park; three brothers, Harvey Lee Hodges and wife, Reba, of Sugar Grove, Roy Lee Hodges, Sr., and Arlie B. Hodges, Jr. and wife, Glenda, all of Vilas; one sister-in-law, Lois Hodges of Banner Elk; one aunt, Alma Anderson of Morristown, Tenn.; and one uncle, Floyd H. Hodges of Vilas. A number of nieces and nephews also survive. Services were conducted Thursday morning, March 2, at 11 a.m., at Henson's Chapel United Methodist Church. Officiating was the Rev. Carl Wilson. Burial followed in the Henson's Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Seby Jones Regional Cancer Center, in care of Watauga Medical Center, P.O.
