    1. Re: [NCWATAUG] David A. Miller
    2. Ed, Obviously you have done quite a bit of genealogy, so I wanted to ask you a question. I have noticed the name "Doctor" in a lot of records (used as a given name). Is Doctor a family name, popular name or have you thought anything about it yourself? 3. I would be interested in finding out David Miller's parents. I have him in my database, but don't have any parents and haven't been able to tie him to any of my Miller cousins. If you can supply any Herman names, that would be very useful to tie in as I have quite a number of them (my mother is a Herman) and I have a good deal of research from early Catawba County that I'll be happy to share with others that tie to this family. r/Jon ----- Original Message ----- From: <Edew31@wmconnect.com> To: <ncwataug@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, January 20, 2008 11:21 PM Subject: Re: [NCWATAUG] David A. 3. Sherry, I am a descendant of David Miller's brother Wm. Jr. Wm. Jr. also served in the House of Represenatives for Wilkes Co. and died while in office in 1825. David also served and had a longer term. I have heard many stories of Edmund, Big Edd, told me by my Uncle Willard Watson. We have been having a Miller Reunion since 1984 here in Watauga County ever odd number years. Next will be third Sat. July, 2009 All Miller descendants and connections are invited to come. We have Millers from all over US attending. My ancestor Wm. Jr. had a son Alfred Miller who had 6 sons in the Civil War. After the war they left this area and headed to Texas. Some of the descendants of these Texas Millers come back to the reunion and have wonderful stories to tell of what happened to their ancestors after they got to Texas and some to Oklahoma and became some of the " Sooners" to Ok. Would love to meet you at this reunion. 3. The e-mail I sent out a little while ago (see below) should have read 50 ballads written by Edmund Blackburn Miller NOT 90 ballads. Sorry for the typo! If you want to share Miller, Winebarger, Blackburn, Holman family info. or have data on the Winebarger School, Zionville School or old Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church, please contact me directly at m-sreeter@embarqmail.com Sherry Winebarger-Reeter I got a lot of my information from the Robert "Butch" Miller family of Watauga Co., NC. They are also descendents of David Miller via his son Jonathan and his son (my great-great grandfather) Edmund Blackburn Miller. Interesting info. on Grandpa Edmund B. Miller is that he wrote over 90 ballads and some have been recorded by The Watson Family and others. Copies of many of his ballads are in the Appalachian Archives. Edmund was 7-feet tall from family folklore and an article which appeared in the Watauga Democrat newspaper on June 16, 1898.

    3. Be careful climbing that Charlemagne family tree. A huge explosion of mathematics ensues when one peers that far up the tree. Yes, he may be in your line. But just about everybody in Europe in the Middle Ages is also in your line, and it is an humbling matter. You are also descended from the nasty agitator Charlemange had hanged for politically questioning the emperor, and speaking ill of the empress's flouncing gown and the little fart-catcher who carried the trailing end of her gown. You are descended from Jack Ketch, the hangman of grim visage who did the easy work of swinging high that agitator who had so irked the high and mighty, as well as the sneaky pickpocket who picked the pockets of the spectators who then enjoyed the common outdoor sport of hanging, and among your grandmothers is the harlot who comforted the pickpocket, gave him beer, cabbage soup, and more. I congratulate all of us for having Charlemange, Roland, and King Arthur way up in our tree, but I also worry that some of our forbears may be manning the gates of Hell. What should we do? Perhaps be baptized in their stead, as the Mormons do? Up that tree is indisputable evidence that George W. Bush and Hillary Clinton are cousins, and the degree of cousin can be measured. If you figure it out and inform the press, a hell of an uproar will ensue, and we may be in Iraq for a thousand years. So I beg you, go easy on Charlemagne. Joe Wilson from Trade, TN, but now out on parole in VA. Related to many in Watauga, Ashe, and Johnson counties. 3. Speaking of Jon Smith.... I've been trying to locate info on a Jonathan M. Smith who married a Candacea Pennington. I haven't located marriage records, but they are found on various census in Watauga Co from 1850 for several years census after. Would love to talk with anyone who might know anything about this family. They had at least 4 daughters: Emeline, Margaret, Lucinda & Elizabeth. Emeline married John C Guy & they had children. Anybody know anything??? Thanks, Melissa. -----Original Message----- From: ncwataug-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:ncwataug-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Jon Smith Sent: Sunday, January 20, 2008 1:19 PM To: ncwataug@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [NCWATAUG] Zionville School I realize I'm not related to John Smith. 3. I realize I'm not related to John Smith. (My Smith's were Schmidt's and came from Germany). But being a Jon Smith, my wife is always asked, "so who are you? Pocohantas?" You have to be a Jon/John Smith to appreciate the situation! :-) ----- Original Message ----- From: "JOHN FLETCHER" <romejohn@verizon.net> To: <ncwataug@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, January 20, 2008 1:05 PM Subject: Re: [NCWATAUG] Zionville School > Maotakoa, aka Pocahontas, aka Rebecca Rolfe married John Rolfe in > Jamestown on April 5, 1614. 3. Have you been able to find any other confirmation for your Source #4 to Pocahontas? I've written to Sharon to find out the source of her information, but never gotten a confirmation, but would love for it to be true (being a Jon Smith - it would be worth a chuckle) as I'm in this line as well. If you can determine the data is true, then you can go back to Charlemagne (and earlier) via one of the husbands that married into the family. r/Jon ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jamie Hald" <jamie@rockaz.com> To: <ncwataug@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, January 20, 2008 11:27 AM Subject: Re: [NCWATAUG] Zionville School Calling all descendants of William Lanbert Miller and Mary Eldridge. I'm a descendant of their son, David who md. Elizabeth Norris. From my files I've pasted the sources I have for William and the notes I have from some of them. If you want to have some fun, go to source #4 about the Aldridge (Eldridge) line. It goes back to Pocahontas. Enjoy! Jamie Sources: 1. Information based on “A Genealogy of William and mary Aldridge Miller” by Danny L. Miller. Additional information from John O. Hawkins. This packet was sent to me by Greg Miller, 2006. Possibly born in England. #3 Mary was the daughter of Thomas II and Martha Bolling born in 1740. I am not sure about the father of William Miller. I have his father as Heinrich Mueller Miller born about 1710. I have this also on William and Mary; >From Margaret DeLong; "Wm. and Polly settled in Lewis Fork, Wilkes Co., NC. They were charter members of the Boone's Ford Church. In 1755 they were members of Jersey Baptist Church in Rowan. They were also charter members of the Three Forks Baptist Church which was org. in 1790" He is the source that provided William's middle name. Also states he was a Rev. War Vet. #4 “William Miller immigrated to Pennsylvania from Germany, by way of England about 1759. He was the son of Heinrich Mueller of Germany, and it is believed his name was changed from German (Wilheim Mueller) to English (William Miller) while he was arranging passage to America from England (immigrants from Europe had to make their way to England to gain ships passage to America from the port of South Hampton). It is also believed he immigrated with at least one brother. William served in the Revolutionary war under the command of General Anthony Wayne. He and Mary were Charter members of the Three Forks Baptist Church, which is the oldest (1790) constituted Church in Watauga County, NC.” #5 “In America William Miller bound himself out in order to obtain money for Mary’s passage to America. William and Mary were probably married between 1755-60, probably in New Jersey. In the 1760’s William and Mary moved into the Jersey Settlement in Rowan County, and in 1775 William joined the Jersey Baptist Church by transfer of letter from Bonne’s Ford Baptist Church. Sometime after this the family moved into Wilkes County, settling at Holman’s Ford on Lewis Fork, but in 1783 they crossed into the part of Ashe County, to Cook’s Gap, which would become Watauga in 1849 and thus became among the earliest settlers of Watauga county. There he took up 640 acres from what is now the Parkway to the New River near Boone and lived on Goshen Creek. William and Mary appear on the records as charter memebers of the Three Forks Baptist Church which was organized in 1790. They were active and faithful members of this church. In 1801 they moved back to Lewis Fork where they spent the rest of thier lives and are presumed to be buried in this area. They died between 1820-30. West of Lewis Fork Baptist Church is Miller Mountain which may have been named for William. There is a cemetery dating back to the 1800’s at the base of the mountain, and Wiliams’s grandson, John B. Miller, son of Jospeh is buried there.” On Jan 19, 2008, at 8:29 PM, Barbara Rich wrote: > I am interested in information on the Miller family. I am a > descendant of > David Miller as well.
