    3. Noah Japan Austin is the son of Samuel Austin and Sarah Bolch. Don't know if they came from Germany, but suspected they did as he showed up in the Herman/Bolch community in Newton, NC (Old St. Paul's Lutheran) and since they were still conducting services in German then, one would guess he was. If you can supply any info, I would be grateful as I can't trace Samuel back any further. Noah did have a brother, Samuel Austin Junior, but I don't have any data on him. He did not have a brother named Lewis, but he did have one named Logan (as well as Daniel, Merrit, William, Elcana, and Emmanuel, as well as sisters Harriet and Mary. There is a Census record in 1850 in Watauga that shows a Samuel Austin, born 1825, living in someone else's household (a John Sheaver if I can read it correctly) - This Samuel Austin apparently married someone named Mary and shows up in Watauga census's later on. There is a Census record in 1850 in Caldwell that shows Samuel Junior still living with Samuel Senior (and Siblings) in Lower Creek township. This is my line of Austins. If you can find a way to tie the Watauga Austin's with the Caldwell/Catawba Austin's, I'm all ears but I haven't found a way! There is a census record in 1860 in Tazewell, Virginia that shows a Samuel and Christiana Austin, that has a Kiah Harmon and a Nancy Harmon living with them, but I can't find any Herman's/Harmon's that fit those dates, so it's one of those tantilizing "maybe's" that also could be a "maybe not". r/Jon ----- Original Message ----- From: "MJFarley" <MJFarley@triad.rr.com> To: <ncwataug@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, January 21, 2008 1:42 PM Subject: Re: [NCWATAUG] William Larkin Greene & Judy Caroline Hodges > Wasn't Noah's parents from Germany he had a brother Samuel married Myra > Reid > or > Reed and moved to Watauga county on Winkler's Creek they were Austin's of > Winkler's Creek . 2. Jon Smith
    3. I've never been able to pin him down as to which Miller's he belongs to, so if you find out, I would love to know. I knew the Bolick's came originally from Catawba County (Lincoln) (Abner's father Abraham) and there's a David Miller b 1794 in Lincoln County, whose parents were John Frederick Miller and Christina Bolch, so I've always believed he ties in with that family somehow. I'm tied into the Bolick's via both of my parents Compounding the records problem is there is another David Miller, also born in 1820 in Ashe County who is related to my Millers there (David Miller and Elizabeth Norris) and I don't have any records indicating either sets of Millers were related to each other. Don't know if you saw John Hawkin's story about the Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetary where Marcus is buried http://www.newstopic.net/articles/2007/08/17/columnists/31hawkins.txt One of our Bolick cousins (Sandy Bolick from Tennessee) has provided a good deal of information. She's a descendant of Marcus's as well - don't know if you know her, but she regularly posts on the Caldwell board. I'll be happy to exchange data off-line if you are interested. r/Jon ----- Original Message ----- From: <Edew31@wmconnect.com> To: <ncwataug@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, January 21, 2008 12:39 PM Subject: Re: [NCWATAUG] David A. 1. Re: [NCWATAUG] David A. Miller
    2. Jon, My g grandfather, Marcus Bolick had land adjoining David A Miller. In looking into the deed of Marcus Bolick, I find other Millers owning land in the area. Dec. 16, 1880 Caldwell County Deed Book 11, Page 426 Heirs of H. W. Miller sell 100 acres to Marcus Bolick. Does not name heirs. 19 April 1849 Caldwell Deed Book 2, page 150 E. P. Miller sells 2 tracts to Abner Bolick 1st tract 50 acres on Waters of Gilberts Branch 2nd tract 40 acres on John's River Abner Bolick was father of Marcus Bolick. Abner may have moved into the area while it was still Burke County. All of Burke county records destroyed before 1865. Abner Bolicks wife was Nancy Winebarger.. This Bolick family came from Alexander County, but lived just across the river from Catawba County. Caldwell County Deed Book 22, page 19 Oct. 1, 1887 W. H. Miller & wife Emlie to J. H Green adjoining land of Burt Hartley, Marcus Bolick and others, on old turnpike rd. Caldwell County Deed Book 31, Page 236 8 Sept 1892 95 Acres adj lands of David Miller & others.....................except 2 acres deeded to W. L. Harmon. Caldwell County Deed Book 32, Page 246 6 July 1898 James M. Bolick & wife Laura L. to Eli Miller sell their interest in 150 acs ( Laura L is d/o of David A. Miller) Caldwell Deed Book 39, page 345 20 June 1904 Heirs of J. D. Miller to J.S. Green and P. O. Hamlet adjoining lands of Jethro C.Bolick (s/o of Marcus) Signed By R. L. Miller W. D. Miller G. W. Miller (George) M. C. Miller (Mira) These deeds are some of the ones that are near David A Miller. I do not know if there is relationship, but think probably so. Ed Greene </HTML>

    3. John Wesley Austin b 7/28/1853 and d 10/19/1926 is the s/o Noah Japan Austin (it's pronounced Jay-pan) and Nancy A Freeman. (yes, she's related to the Mary Ann Freeman that married Lawson Swanson - Nancy was Mary Ann's aunt). Rosa Bell's parents were John Wesley Austin and Sarah Elizabeth Lingle, not Mary Ann Freeman, someone's given you some incorrect info. John Austin and Sarah Lingle are both buried in Sardis Cemetary in Hudson. The Freeman's were descendents of William Freeman, founder of the city of Springfield, Missouri and head of the scouts for George Washington at the battle of Yorktown. I can go back to the 1600's on the Lingel's into Germany if you are interested. One of my grandmothers was an Austin, so I've done a little work on them. Noah's father was Samuel Austin, b 1790, but we can't find his parents. He was married 3/3/1818 in Lincoln County to Sarah Bolch (Bolick), then moves to Alexander County, and eventually dies in Caldwell County. I'll be happy to exchange data if you want off-line; just send me a direct email. Sounds like we're cousins! r/Jon ----- Original Message ----- From: "Katherine Chester" <kjachester@bellsouth.net> To: <ncwataug@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, January 21, 2008 11:42 AM Subject: Re: [NCWATAUG] William Larkin Greene & Judy Caroline Hodges > Hope someone can help me make a connection with this family. 3. My Miller family was in the Washington County area, after the Revolutionary War. I have Adam Miller, born in Pa. June 8, 1768 as father to Absolom b. 1798,& siblings,Joseph, b. 1793, Mary D. b. 1795, then Absolom, then Hezekiah, b. 1800, Rosanna 1881, Nancy Miller 1804, Adam Crawford 1806, and Elizabeth, 1808. Maybe these names could tie into the David Miller ancestry. There was another Miller, named Henry in the same area that served in the Revolutionary War. Both Henry & Adam moved to Roane County and brought up families and heirs still remain in that area. Children of Absolom b. in 1798 were Levinia b. 1824, Stephen 1818, Joseph 1830, William, 1832 Absolom 1835, Elizabeth 1840, Jefferson 1841, and W. P. Wiley or Willie Polk Miller, b. 1845 went mostly by W. P. or Polk Miller. Wiliey had a son named David born in Tn. Roane County. 1. [NCWATAUG] Teddy Roosevelt Trivia
    2. Carolyn Curtis
    3. More Teddy Roosevelt trivia. My husband's grandfather served as a White House guard from 1902 until his death in 1917. He served under Presidents T. Roosevelt, Taft and Wilson. We recently came into possession of a flag which was given to him by President Roosevelt. The flag is 100+ years old and is from the 4th Presidential Yacht, The USS Mayflower. It is stamped "The Mayflower" on the binding. We also have a book which belonged to President Roosevelt. Just before I read the posting yesterday re: Teddy Roosevelt, I was searching the internet for pictures of Teddy Roosevelt with White House guards. I was lucky and found one which includes my husband's grandfather! He was originally from McDowell County, NC. Recently in Lenoir, Caldwell County, NC, there was an article about Teddy's granddaughter, Theodora Roosevelt Rauchfuss. Seems she has been living here in the Happy Valley area and no one knew it but a very few. She passed away and her attorney came forward with the news about her death.
