If you'll check on the Watauga Links you will find a link to a page another NCGenWeb CC has up about the Jersey Settlement. Sharon
I am in possession of a pin that belonged to my great-grandmother. It has two tomahawks and the word Watauga 138 on the front side of it. On the back it has J.F.R. 1910. The J.F.R. stands for Jessie Frances Richardson - that was my great-grandmothers name. I do not know what the 1910 means. If anyone could shed some light on this it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Fran Whitman
Colonel Thomas Edmunds 1748-1826 married to Sarah Eldridge 1754-1836 Sarah was the daughter of Thomas Eldridge II 1713-1754 and Elizabeth Jones. Thomas Eldridge II was first married to Martha Bolling 1713. Sarah was then half sister to Thomas Eldridge III 1738 and Mary Polly b 1740-1745. Thomas III married Winifred Jones Miller in 1768. Winifred Jones Miller b 1743 was the daughter of a William Miller b 1710 of Lancaster County, Va,. and Mary Heath. Could William Miller 1735 be related to her ????? Husband of Mary Polly Eldridge ??? He was the bro. in law of Thomas Eldridge III and son in law of Thomas II . >From Steve Guthrie's work, (See his site) http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=:1736779&id=I81284174 "Capt. James W. Bradley commanded a company of VA. Artillery under Col. Edmunds, April 1 to June 1 1780. Capt. James W. Bradley, Lt. John Scott, Lt. Cary Wiatt, William Roane, Source: [Virginia Rev. War Pay Rolls, p. 304].In the muster roll of General Martin in an expedition against the Cherokee Indians Sept. 1788: John Miller, Moses Webb, and John Hardin listed as Captains. Deeds of Sullivan Co., TN.; Roll 31, Book N2, p. 758, #599, p.324. Deed #570, p. 222." DEM note- Col Edmunds would be the same Col. Thomas Edmunds married to Sarah Eldridge. Moses Webb and John Hardin have been well documented but its John Miller that interests me. Steve Guthrie goes on to say "The following information about John Miller, Sr of Sullivan County,Tennessee is taken from the book, "Rifle Balls, Horseshoes, Wagon Wheels, and A Bible: The Story of John & Thomas Miller, Their Descendents and Alliances, Part 1" by Ethelyn Barnes Mitchell of Sherman, Texas. Page 51: "The only family record we have found giving any indication of his [John]origin is found in a small note written by a descendent of Elisha Emory Miller, a grandson of John Miller. It states simply "JOHN MILLER -ENGLAND". We are left to ponder if he was born in England or was he a descendent of Millers who came to America from England as those thousands of immigrants poured out of English ports. It is probable that he was born about 1740 to 1750." DEM QUESTON? Does this sound like William and his immigration? Could John and William be brothers? Any thoughts anyone? Oh yes, I still have more thought twisters like this, all related to William and Mary Eldridge.
Got the following from the Watauga County Heritage Book: "William Miller came to America from England probably around early 1750s. The family moved to the Jersey Settlement near Lexington in late 1775, and then later to Lewis's Fork in Wilkes County. In 1783, the Millers with Nathan Horton, Ebenezer Fairchild and their families, moved from Lewis' Fork in Wilkes County to the area now known as Watauga County. The Miller's lived east of Boone, probably near present day Rutherwood." There is more if anyone is interested. Carla Stancil Townsend -----Original Message----- From: D. E. Carla, Thank you for your response, First about The Jersey Settlement; http://www.tamu.edu/ccbn/dewitt/mckstmerjersey.htm I am not sure about how close to Meatcamp this was but the two places are connected to William Miller. Anyway, I am interested in your Mary Eldridge and William Miller. This William Miller would be the William Lambert Miller who married Polly Eldridge. I had her name as "Polly" and it was Mary "Polly' as I now show. Mary was the daughter of Thomas II and Martha Bolling born in 1740. I am not sure about the father of William Miller. I have his father as Heinrich Mueller Miller born about 1710. I have this also on William and Mary; From Margaret DeLong; "Wm. and Polly settled in Lewis Fork, Wilkes Co., NC. They were charter members of the Boone's Ford Church. In 1755 they were members of Jersey Baptist Church in Rowan. They were also charter members of the Three Forks Baptist Church which was org. in 1790" So you can see my interest in the Jersey BAptist Church as well. I have Wm. and Mary with seven children, Descendants of William Miller (REV. Please let me know any corrections or additions. Especially if you have a John Miller who married a Jane Hickerson. I think he is connected to this family in some way but maybe not a son. I am looking for information about a resident of the Carolina Rest Home in No. Wilkesboro - Elizabeth Everett (my aunt). She died there on June 3, 1990. I would like to find out more about her for purposes of our family history. She was a teacher and missionary in KY and NC in the 1930's and 1940's. Does anyone remember her? I have some unidentified photos of the people whom she worked with/ taught back then and would like to send them to some historical archive or organization. Can anyone recommend a contact for this purpose? Any help is greatly appreciated. Carolyn Ober Bulgey [email protected]

Dear Barbara, I would like to discuss your David Miller line http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=momrogerson&id=I0743 and Leonard 1803 in particular. If you look at his marriage bond; Married: 30 DEC 1828 in Wilkes County, NC Bride: Elizabeth Church Groom: Leonard Miller Bond Date: 30 Dec 1828 County: Wilkes Record #: 02 176 Bondsman: Daniel Bumgarne Witness: R Martin Bond #: 000166599 Notice Daniel Bumgarne, I asked myself why he did the bond? See if this makes sense to you, Leonard Bumgarner Sr 1754 married Catherine Miller 1758 who was the d/o MIchael Carmichael Miller 1725 and Elizabeth Ultretch. Leonard Bumgarne was the brother to Daniel and John T. I only know that Daniel married an Elizabeth ?? (Might have been a Miller????) John T.'s daughter Elizabeth ca 1785 Married George Miller ca 1780 who was the son of Michael Miller ca1753 and Catherine Uzry. This Michael a son of Michael Carmichael and Elizabeth and a brother to Catherine. Here is my point, Catherine and Michael 1753 also had a brother Leonard ca 1762 and he married an Elizabeth Unknown and I would bet my farm (If I had one) that Leonard of 1803 married to Elizabeth Church would be his son because Daniel Bumgarne(r) would be his first cousin David Miller was the son of William Miller 1735 and Mary "Polly" Aldridge (Eldridge). ( The Meat Camp Millers) According to Clyde C. Miller, of Sands, N.C., "there is a tradition that, several years before the Revolutionary War, three young men, a Horton, a Miller and Baird, all married sisters named Eldridge and moved to the upper Yadkin from Pennsylvania. They probably came with the Jersey settlers. Tradition also gives this Miller the name of William and credits him with having fought in the Revolution. His son, David, was one of the first settlers in the bounds of what is now Watauga county, near Meat Camp Creek. David Miller and Levi Murphey or Morphew were constables and called the first court in Watauga to order. David had twelve children, seven sons and five daughters: Wayne, David, John, William, Joseph, Ephriam and Jonathan: Lydia, who married a Bingham, Rebecca, who married Battle Bryan; Polly, who married a Lookabill; Elizabeth, who married an Allison, and Nancy, who married a Lewis." By coping others I hope to generate enough interest to work out differences and connections between the "Meat Camp Millers" and "Blue Ridge Millers". Anyone with connections to either of these Miller lines is encouraged to put in their "Too Sense" (Two Cents)" worth. D E Miller
Linda, I am working on Michael "Carmichael" Mueller Miller b.ca.1725, married to Elizabeth Ultretch line. (I believe I may be a fifth great grandson.) Still need lots of proof however. So it would be great if we could get together with others working on this family to compare notes. Anyone interested in such a project is invited to participate by getting back to me. I find a group willing to work together and contributing to the project is a great way to achieve great things. Someone has said " None of US is as smart as ALL of us." So pass the word, Surnames I have associated are; Honing, Ingram, Severt, BAre, Woody, Wesner, Bumgarner, Sheets, Black, Cox, Baker, Kilby, Hickerson, Isbell, Vannoy, Church, Hardin, Webb, and more. I am researching my Bright ancestors, and ran across an early settler named Samuel Bright. Do you know of anyone that is working this line, or may have info on Brights of that area? I am descended from a Richard Bright, born 1792, and lived in Wake County, NC. I'm looking for Richard Bright's father, and have run out of ideas. I was hoping someone might know Samuel Bright of Watauga county's lineage, and there might be some relation. Randy Bright
