    1. [NCWATAUG] Morris BAKER Sr. & Jr
    2. Pat/Chas
    3. D.E. : I descend from Morris BAKER through his daughter Mary "Polly" who married Meredith BALLOU. I do not have a Morris JR as a son of Morris. I have the following sons: Jonathan, James, Zacharia, Robert and possibly a Jeremiah. Can you give me a source for the Morris JR? I have Morris (SR as you list him) as married to Jane SMITH, daughter of Hugh SMITH. You have his wife as Martha Patsy SMITH. Do you have a source for this? Right off the top of my head I don't recall that Hugh SMITH's will mentioned his daughters' names, just son-in-law Morris BAKER. You might want to post your Watauga-L posting on the New River List and get a good old BAKER thread going. Charlie Weaver, Winston-Salem, NC

    3. John Koons born in Maryland in 1755-1757 and married to Magdalena "Unknown" had a daughter Mary Koontz b ca 1780. She married Morris Baker Jr. b ca 1775 and also Jonathan Baker, both sons of Morris Baker Sr ca1750 and Martha Patsy Smith. Another son of Morris Baker Sr was Zachariah and he married Sarah Cox. Her parents were John Cox and Margaret Davis. Another daughter of John Cox, Catherine "Caty" Cox married Henry Hardin b ca 1765 in Grayson County, VA. This Henry Hardin was the son of William Everett Hardin, b 1741 and married to Sarah Bledsoe. William Everett Hardin was Captain of the Second Company of Wilkes County NC Militia in the 1787 Federal Census. Another daughter of John Cox named Anna Amanda "Annie" Cox married yet another son of Morris Baker and Martha Smith named James H Baker b ca 1783. Morris Baker Sr b. ca 1750 was the son of Andrew Squire Baker ca 1692 and Mary "Molly" Bolling b. ca 1708. One of Andrew Baker and Mary Bolling's sons named Andrew Jr. married Hannah VanNoy b 1751 in Bladen, NC. Hannah VanNoy was the sister of Nathaniel VanNoy b 1748 and his spouse was Elizabeth Ann Ray b. ca 1755. Nathaniel VanNoy was one of the first ministers of Three Forks Baptist Church as was The Reverend Andrew Baker b. ca 1749. Rev Baker's second marriage was to Susannah VanNoy, sister to Nathaniel VanNoy and Hannah. Nathaniel VanNoy's wife Elizabeth Ann Ray was the sister of Jesse Ray who was the spouse of Ellender "Nellie" Baker, sister to the Reverend Andrew Baker. This began with John Koons and his daughter's who married Baker men, there was another daughter named Catherine Mary Polly Koontz b. ca 1780 and she married Daniel Miller b. ca 1784 and he was the son of Michael "RWS" Carmichael (3) Miller and Catherine "Caty" Uzry. This family lived Blue Ridge and along the South fork of the New River. Danny Miller had referred to this Michael as the "probable father of George who married Eliz Bumgarner" in earlier versions of his work (Per Karen W.) Is there a connection between the Blue Ridge Millers and the Meatcamp Millers? Hmmmm? D E Miller

So hang in there, even if this is not your Miller line, you might be surprised where we end up. I know I will be surprised because I am not sure where the end result will be.This whole process has become my challenge because I need to place a John Miller b ca 1760 and his wife Jane Hickerson in his proper family. Thomas Eldridge / Aldridge, (I use the Aldridge spelling in my data) is like Jacob Rominger in his relationships with Miller families. Thomas Aldridge's wife Mary Bolling is important to talk about since she is a descendent of Pocahontas Maotoaka Powhatan and John Rolfe II.b 6 may 1585. This is an old story and most of what we have been told has been exagerated and flavored to the liking of American Euro people. I recommend the reading of Native American version of her life which can be found in most libraries or the inter.net. Fist born son Thomas Aldridge III and wife Winifred Ann Jones Miller.Winifred was the d/o William Miller b. 1710 at Lancaster County, Pa and Mary Heath b ca 1723 Northumberland, Va and his father was Randolph Miller b ca 1650.I don't know where the Jones in her name came from other than her husband's brother William married an Ann Jones.. I can find no other interesting marriages from Randolph other than this. Mary Polly Aldridge and spouse William Miller b ca 1735 were founding members of Three Forks Church in 1790. The members of this church and my knowledge of many of the same families migrating to Tn and Ky seem too much of a coincidence to not include my John Miller in their circles of friends and family. I'll not go into that aspect at this time. William Miller and his family are most important to this presentation in general. I BELIEVE that William was the son of Heinrich Mueller Miller born 1710-1720 and he the brother of Abraham "The Elder: Miller from Part One. An email received from one of my West Virginia Miller cousins gives me the clue, copy follows. Appreciate any input. [email protected] (WD M) To: [email protected] (Darrell E. 3. I want to thank EVERYONE who contributed information to me. This makes what I am about to put down possible. I don't know that I can get it all in one sitting as it is very involved. I will try to "Keep It Simple" yet knowing that writing is difficult for me. I ask everyone to bear with me and if clarification is needed on any part, let me know and I will do my best to respond. If anyone wants genealogy reports for any family being discussed, I will send out as attachments when requested. I begin with Jacob Rominger Jr. born 10 January 1783 at Friedberg, Rowan County, NC and he died 12 January 1827. He was married three times, first to Maria "Maime" Wesner b 25 March 1776 Friedberg, Stokes, NC. His 2nd wife was Susannah Miller b ca 1786. They married 17 June 1807 NC. (Rowan ?) His 3rd wife was Elizabeth Wesner b 16 June 1788. married 3 July 1821 in NC. (John Weesner Wit. Henry (Ripple Sur. Bond) Jacob's first wife, Maria Wesner, was the d/o Mathias Wesner b 1729 and Anna Giesy b 1738 and the grand d/o Johann Jacob Peter Wesner who came to the Colonies on Galley "Adventure" Oct. 1727. Other passengers on this ship included Michael Miller, Christopher Miller, Johannes Ulrick, Christopher Ulrich, Johannes Kurtz , and Johann Peter Hess. Maria "Maime" Wesner was also married to Valentine "Felty" Miller b 1766 at Friedberg, NC. the son of Johannes and Maria Faber Miller. Second wife Susannah Miller was the d/o Heinrich "Henry" Miller b ca 1755 in PA. and Susannah Miller b 21 Jan 1761 Friedberg, Rowan Co., NC. "Henry" was the son of Abraham "The Elder" Miller Sr. and his is wife unknown. Henry's wife, Susannah Miller, was the d/o Johannes Miller b 1726 and Maria M Faber b 1735. This family is well documented. Third wife was Elizabeth Wesner b 1788, d/o Johanne John Wesner b 1764 at Emmaus, PA. and Catherine Ebert b 1768 at Friedberg, NC Johanne John was the son of Mathias (see above) and brother to Maria (see 1st wife above). I think that makes Maria and Elizabeth Aunt and Niece. Mathias Wesner had another brother, uncle to Johanne John, named Johanne George Wesner b. 1732 who had a daughter named Judith b ca 1761. Judith was a first cousin, once removed to Elizabeth and a niece to Maria 'Maime". ( bet this one got your head swimming) Judith married Rev War Soldier George Miller b ca1755 and he the son of Abraham "The Elder" Miller b 1720-1725 in Germany and lived in Botetourte County, VA. The wife of Abe Sr is not known but his children known to me were, 1 Deborah who wed James Davis b. 1740-1750. 2 Jemima who wed John Thomas. 3 John b. 1730-1740 wed Hannah Isbell b1735-1745. (Their daughter Elizabeth wed Zachariah Isbell Jr.) 4 Heinrich "Henry" b. ca 1755 in PA. wed Susannah Miller b 21 Jan 1761 at Friedberg, NC. Susannah the d/o Johannes Miller b 1726 and Maria M Faber b 1735. Janice Isaacs Pilkington sent the following; LDC'; Article states that Johannes (John) Muller was b in PA. His parents came from Bergelbach, Hesse-Nassau (Frankfurt is in this area). This being the case, then I submit George Muller Miller b 1700- 1710 Bergelbash, Nassau Germany (now a part of Hesse-Nassau) as a possible father of Johannes John and that George. I'll come back later to George. (Continuing with the children of Abraham The Elder Miller Sr. 5 George b. ca 1755 (see above) wed to Judith Wesner Notes for George Miller and Judith Wesner: Revolutionary War pension papers of Geo. Miller and his widow, Judith Wesner Miller. These papers reveal the following facts; George Miller was born ca 1756, according to his affidavit, which said he as 67 yrs at time of application, May 1823, in Crawford County, ILL. In 1823 he had been a resident of Crawford County, Ill. about 2 1/2 years., indicating he must have arrived there about Dec of 1820. On March 26, 1825 he applied to have his pension sent to him in Missouri, " to which he had lately removed" (Franklin County, MO.] Judith Wesner Miller, applying for widow's pension, said George died 15 June 1830. She declared they were married in May of 1877, in Hagerstown, MD. her home being about two miles away in Funkstown. They were married in the German Reformed Church, by a Rev. Wm. Wymer. His record book could not be found. Affidavits indicated she was 16 years old. at the time of marriage in 1877. This would make her date of birth ca 1761. She presented a family record page from a German Bible which recorded their first child as Elizabeth, born 2 Mar 1780. [Friends had testified they were married some time before their first child was born.] This page recorded the tenth child, David, b. ca 1799. Land deals of George Miller in Maryland. 1] George and Judith bought land in Washington Co. MD. in 1785. [Washington Co. was formed from Frederick Co. in 1776] A final Wesner marriage of note would be Rebecca Wesner b 4 March 1805, d/o John and Catherine Ebert b, 1768, married Daniel Spach b. 1793, son of Johann Adam Spach b 1753 and Catharina Ebert b 1759. A daughter of Rebecca and Daniel Spach, Charlotte b. 1819 married Christian Miller b 1813. (I need to find out this Christian Miller's parents.) 6 Abraham "The Younger" Miller b. 1 Mar 1771 who wed Sarah "Sally" Givens b 15 Mar 1774 son of Abraham "The Elder" Miller Sr. There are some who place Abraham "The Younger" as a son of John and Hannah Isbell, but I disagree. My reasons are as follows; Source: Ray Isbell [email protected] 30 Sept 01. John and Hannah Miller, originally of Augusta Co., VA, moved to Lincoln Co., KY sometime before 1780. John Miller died there intestate in 1781, but Hannah died in 1795 and left a will that speaks of her daughters. Then a court document dated 1786, 23 June, page 513 "Virginia Supreme Court, District of Kentucky, Order Books 1783-1792: Upon the petition of James Davis and Deborah Davis his wife, and Abraham Miller the Younger, a minor, by the said James Davis his Guardian, it is ord'd that the Sheriff of Rockingham County summon to appear here on the ninth day of the next Supreme Court, John Thomas to prove the will of Abraham Miller the Elder, dec'd, and take upon himself the execution thereof, or show cause to the contrary. And also that the said Sheriff summon the said John Thomas and Jemima Thomas his wife, and that the Sheriff of Lincoln County summon Zachariah Isbell and Elizabeth Isbell his wife, Wm. Field and Mary Field his wife, and Hannah Robertson, legatees under the said will, to appear here on the same day to answer the petition of the said James, Deborah and Abraham exhibited against them. And it is further ord'd that the present Admrs do not pay away any legacy or legacies or any part thereof to any person whatever claiming the same until the further order of this court. D E Miller NOTE: I believe James Davis and Deborah were petitioning for Abraham "The Younger" rights as a child of Abraham "The Elder" Miller Sr. (I was going to paste a copy of Hannah Miller's will but can't seem to put my hands on it at this time.) 3. 1. This is in reference to the David Miller s/o Wm. Miller. The list for the children of David and Elizabeth Norris Miller, from D. E. Miller lists Ephriam Miller b November 10, 1823. I have Ephriam married to Mary Isaacs d/o Richard and Lillianna Swift Isaacs. My notes on this are as follows: 1850 Watauga Co., NC Census; Listed Mary age 22. FTM-WFT Vol., 6 # 3568 Watauga County Heritage, NC Vol. I Art. 440; Names Ephriam Miller as son of David Miller and Elizabeth Norris dau./of John Norris. David is the son of William and Mary "Polly" Eldridge/Aldridge Miller. This Miller family moved to Meat Camp abt 1783 in what was then Wilkes Co., NC, but would later be in the Watauga Co., NC area near Boone. Although this article names Mary Isaacs as the second wife of Ephriam Miller, there is only one Mary Isaacs that would fit this age group and time as far as I know. So I have put her as the wife of Ephriam Miller. I may be wrong. Too, the first wife is named Katherine Woodring, so I suspect that some of these children would be hers. 1860 Watauga County Census, Compiled by Carl A. Ross, Jr., household #429; Mary age 33 1870 Watauga County Census, Compiled by Carl A. Ross, Jr., Meat Camp Twp., household #22; Mary age 44 1880 Watauga County Census, Compiled by Carl A. Ross, Jr., Meat Camp Twp., Household # 70; Mary age 52 head of household My direct line also includes ancestors Matthias Carpenter and his spouse Elizabeth Miller, d/o Christian Miller. As you will note, this family also lived in the Meat Camp area. These are my notes for this couple: The book, "The Miller Families of Ashe Co., NC, by Danny l. Miller. Page 227 Christian and Veronica with children came from PA to NC in 1752, settling on Deep Creek, NC. This area is now in Yadkin Co., NC. Christian had a plantation according to Moravian Records. Surry Co., NC Wills, 1771-1827, by Jo White Linn. Will Book 3:18a. Christian's will was written on 14 April 1785 in Surry Co., NC. 1784 State Census of Surry Co. on pg. 152: Jacob Miller - 1WM 21-60, 3WM -21 or 60+, 4 EF Christian Miller-1WM 21-60, 3 WM -21 or 60 +, 1WF Matthias Capeter [sic, Carpenter] - 1 WM 21-60, 1 WM -21 or 60+, 3 WF A Christian is shown on the 1784-1787 State Census of Wilkes Co., NC in Capt. Wright's Dist.--Pg. 1. In a ltr. dtd. 15 Oct 1990 from a certified genealogist, Mrs. Stahle Linn Jr., of Salisbury, NC shows the following on the 1782 State Tax List of Surry Co. on pg. 62: with 3 horses, 8 coes, and 300 A on Deep Creek. Also, in the same letter it shows that John and Jacob Miller, and Matthias Carpenter were on the 1774 Surry Co. Tax List, but not Christian Miller. Christian may have been exempt from the poll tax because of his age. John and Jacob, but not Christian Miller or Matthias Carpenter, appear on the 1772 Surry Co., NC Tax List. LDC; Article mentions Christian Miller, a Moravian of Rowan Co., (around Muddy Creek in what is now Davidson Co., NC.) he later settled in Surry Co.'; his will written in April of 1785, is probated in that county. It appears that his wife predeceased him. Christian had four children to survive his death; Jacob, Mary (who was married to a Davis), Catherine and Elizabeth. This Elizabeth Miller was m to Matthias Carpenter, and she may be the lady shown on the first of these pages as his wife. Certainly, she was the mother of two of the children shown on that page. (These are the children I have listed for Matthias and Elizabeth Carpenter: Frances Maria Carpenter 1771 m (1) ? Weatherman (2) William Davis Matthias Carpenter, Jr. 1777 Jacob Carpenter, abt 1779 Margaret Carpenter b 1784 m Jonathan Miller b 1776 s/o Johannes Miller (John Muller) Notes for Johannes Miller below: Mathias Carpenter & family lived on Deep Creek (Millers Settlement) then Surry Co. now Yadkin Co. until about 1796, when they moved to then Wilkes Co. (Ashe Co. in 1799) on Staggs or Stages Creek. He was one of the first landowners in Ashe Co. His name was in Book 1 of the Register's Office. The first deed was registered on 3 Oct 1799. Source: The book, "Ashe Co. A History", by Arthur L. Fletcher.A list of 19 Deed transactions as recorded in the Ashe Co., NC Deeds Recordings beginning with the year 1802 and ending with the year 1835. Both Matthias and his wife died in abt 1835. Notes for Johannes Miller/Mueller LDC'; Article states that Johannes (John) Muller was b in PA. His parents came from Bergelbach, Hesse-Nassau (Frankfurt is in this area). His wife was also b in PA. Her mother's first name was Maria. LDC has not been able to establish her father's first name. He was referred to simply as "Old Faber" in the NC Moravian records. The date of his buriel was March 21, 1778. (The Fabers apparently came from PA to NC in their old age to stay with their daughter and son-in-law.) After marriage the Johannes Mullers first settled on the New River in VA, then came to Bethabara in Forsyth Co., because of the Indian troubles. Next they went to Davidson Co., NC around Muddy Creek, where he believes their graves to be. Those records are probably in the Rowan Co., NC files. LDC; in Article written on the Mullers/Millers. Gives date of birth for Jonathan. Gives date of death as 9 Feb 1780. Johannes and Maria Faber Miller/Mueller had at least two sons according to my source, twins. Jonathan Miller b 12-28, 1776 and David Miller. Notes for Jonathan b 1776 m Margaret Carpenter d/o Matthias: I have nothing more on the brother of Jonathan b 1776. Jonathan led to the establishment of the Flat Rock Church of the Brethren in Ashe Co., NC in 1802. Up until this time all of Johannes family were members of the Moravians, but Jonathan changed. Jonathan and Margaret Carpenter Miller's daughter Sarah married a John Miller. This couple moved to IN, according to research done by Danny Miller. 3. Dear friends of Watauga County, NC and all Miller researchers, I have found some connections I need to share with you and hope you will find time to read and let me know your thoughts. I have more to share, but to put it all down in one sitting would be exhausting for you and me. I am more than willing to talk about any of the following and welcome additions or corrections to what appears here. I have been researching names of the Founders of The Three Forks Church in Watauga and connections to families I am most familiar with in Madison County, Ky and no surprise when most every name on the church list connects in some way or another. A few follow; 1- I found Samuel Wilcoxson Sr. at the Three Forks Baptist Church in Watauga County, NC in 1790. He had a son Alfred Wilcoxson who married Sarah "Sallie" Miller b. 1794-1804 d/o Jacob Miller III b. 1751 in Lunenburg County, Va. and died Sept. 19, 1840 in FRANKLIN COUNTY, TN. This Jacob was the son of Jacob and Elizabeth Fudge and grandson of Jacob Miller Sr and MARGARET CATRINA MUELLER. I believe this Margaret Catrina to be the daughter of Johann Peter Mueller and sister of Adam Mueller 1703 who married Maria Anna Barbara Koger. 2- I found Benjamin Cutbirth 1740 also at the same church in 1790. He married Elizabeth Wilcoxson (1742) in Rowan County in 1762. She would be the sister of Samuel Wilcoxson mentioned above. Mary Cutbirth 1772, d/o Ben and Elizabeth, married Elijah Calloway (b 1769) son of Thomas Calloway II and Jude Ann Moffett. Mary Cutbirth brother Benjamin Jr, (b 1764) married the sister of Elijah, Salina Calloway b 1764. Thomas Calloway II was the son of Colonel Thomas Calloway 12 Oct 1700 and Mary Baker. Richard Calloway b 1717 married Frances Walton and Richard was killed at Fort Boonesborough in 1780. This is a stretch, but non the less another Miller link. Richard's son Zachariah "Nathaniel" Calloway b 04 Sept 1750 married Susannah Miller b. ca 1755 and she was the d/o Captain Simon Miller IV b ca 1719 and Ann Robertson Bell. Simon Miller was born in Richmond, Henrico County, VA. The Calloway was represented at Three Forks Church in 1790 by James . James C Calloway married to Sarah Bramlett, son of Col. Thomas and Mary Baker, brother to Elizabeth Calloway b. 1725 and married to Zachariah Isbell Sr. b 1722. Here is the Miller connection, Zach Isbell Jr. b 1750 married Elizabeth Miller b 1750-1760. She was the d/o John Miller b 1730-1740 and Hannah Isbell. (I don't know Hannah's parents.) JOHN MILLER, THE SON OF ABRAHAM 'THE ELDER' MILLER, (1720-1725) WHO WAS BORN IN GERMANY BUT LIVED IN BOTETOURT COUNTY, VA. It is my THEORY that Heinrich Mueller Miller b 1710 and Christian Miller Sr b 1720 were brother's of Abraham 'The Elder" and he the father of William Miller b. 1735 and married to Mary "Polly" Aldridge. Descendants of Abraham 'The Elder" Miller 1 Abraham 'The Elder" Miller b: Bet. 1720 - 1725 in Germany, lived in Botetourt County, VA. ........ 2 John Miller b: Bet. 1730 - 1740 in Augusta County, VA. ............ +Hannah Isbell .................. 3 Hannah Miller b: Abt. 1743 in Augusta County, VA. ...................... +Isaac Robinson .................. 3 Mary MIller ...................... +William Field .................. 3 Elizabeth Miller b: Bet. 1750 - 1760 in VA. ...................... +Zachariah Jr Isbell b: Abt. 1750 in Bedford, VA. ........ 2 Jemima Miller ............ +John Thomas ........ 2 Abraham "Younger" Miller b: March 01, 1771 in Botetourt County, VA. ............ +Sarah Givens b: March 15, 1775 in Augusta County, VA. .................. 3 Deborah "Debbie" Miller b: December 21, 1804 in Lncoln County, KY. ...................... +James Miller Carpenter b: 1832 .................. *2nd Husband of Deborah "Debbie" Miller: ...................... +John Carpenter b: 1806 .................. 3 George Givens Miller b: December 01, 1802 in Ky ...................... +America Carpenter ........ 2 Deborah Miller ............ +James Davis b: Bet. 1740 - 1750 There remain many connections as a result of this and hope those of interest will help in researching and summarizing. 3. Reply from Darrell Miller; Thomas Land b 1783 married Jane Carlton in Wilkes Co. 16 Nov. 1814. He was son of Jonathan Land 1759 and Elizabeth Isbell. His son Wilson Land married Rebecca Miller b 1816 who was d/o Wm. Miller Jr. and Rebecca Baird. The second Thomas Land b 1788 , son of John Land 1756 and Elizabeth Barlow, married Virginia Jane Miller b ca 1790 who was the d/o of John Miller and Jane Hickerson. John Land of 1756 was the son of Thomas Land Jr. and Ann Sumpter. Anne died Wilkes County in abt. 1790. The Thomas's are first cousins as their fathers, John and Jonathan are brothers. This is part of my case that John Miller, father of Virginia and William Miller Jr. . are in fact related , but I don't know how!!!! Michael Miller who married Millie Bare, I do not know who his parents were... but get this, Louisa Miller their daughter married Daniel Black b 1840 and he was the son of Jacob Black and Sarah Sallie Miller b 1798. Sarah Miller was the d/o Daniel Miller b. 1784 and Cathrine mary Polly Koontz, b 1780. Daniel Miller was the son of Michael Carmichael Miller ca 1753 and Catherine Urzy. So if we knew Michael's father we could possibly provide a link between William Miller and Mary to Michael Carmichael Miller and Catherine Urzy. Back to the other Michael Miller , b ca 1783 who married Polly Jones on Oct. 20, 1807 in Madison County, KY was the son of John Miller and Jane Hickerson.
