    1. Norris family
    2. I am Charles Wagner, Son of Roland Wagner and Ruth Norris, GGgrandson of Jacob Norris. Jacob was born and died in TN. His Son Jacob Jasper lived in Cove Creek NC and was m. to Clarica Vannoy. My grandfather Charles Lenny was raised in Cove Creek area of NC. I have run into a dead end as I have no further info on Jacob. Can anyone help me in tracing the ancestory further back. I have a lot of info on the Vannoy family as the has been well researched and recorded. Descendants of Jacob Norris 1 Jacob Norris 1813 - 1849 .. +Rebecca Smith 1812 - ........ 2 Jacob Jasper Norris 1849 - 1907 ............ +Clarica Clarinda Vannoy 1851 - 1933 ...................3 Charles Lenney Norris 1894 - 1972 ....................... +Ila Ruth Klutz 1897 - 1971 ............................. 4 Ruth Hope Norris 1918 - 1984 ................................. +Roland Weston Wagner 1914 - 1997 ........................................ 5 Charles Warren Wagner 1938 - ............................................ I have been to Watauga Co. and done some grave yard research, but no results. There is probasbly a connection with so many Norris familys in the area, but I cannot seem to find it.

    3. Hello, to all of you on the Watauga List, and especially those of you who have sent me Triplett, information that you have had, to me. I appreciate it and I'll go through all of it word for word. I have to print copies of everything as it is easier for me to read and absorb what it means. If any of you are curious about whether any of your ancestors were on the Cherokee Removal Rolls, let me know and I'll look in the books I have, written by Bob Blankenship. Ok, I'll get off of here for now, Thanks again and take care. Dorothy

    1. Davis / Phillips connection in Watauga County?
    2. Barry M. Cole
    3. Given the many new participants in this forum... I would like to throw out a query. ** *My question is about Willam Floyd Davis,* Born August 29, 1869 in Watauga County, NC, died August 17, 1948 in Columbia, SC. Buried at Old Mt. Pleasant in the Meat Camp Area. This individual has been a "black hole" with virtually no information known about him. My grandmother (and his daughter Wille Belle Davis Moretz) refused to talk about him to anyone (her children indicated they tried to ask questions about him and would receive no answers). His granddaughter and my mother remembered him, but knew no family information about him. He married *Flora Isabelle Moretz* who was born April 25, 1873 in Watauga County, Boone, NC, and died March 04, 1954 in Watauga County, Boone, NC. She was the daughter of Timothy Moretz and Rebecca Caroline Woodring. After years of research: 1. It appears his mother was Relzora or Belzora Davis (name varies by record - who was a twin). 2. The 1880 Census of Watauga County, Bald Mt. Dist., NC lists Relzora H. Davis, age 37 in William H. Phillips home. Also shown in home is W. F Davis (William Floyd?) age 9 and R. M. Phillips age 6. 3. If this is my GGF, the ages are right. And if he was illegitimate, that would explain the secrecy of his family. 4. Also, there is a verbal history that his daughter harbored "hard feelings" toward the Phillips family. I would like to confirm or discount this track... Does anyone have any information on a Davis / Phillips connection in Watauga County.

    3. I have a feeling that you are gonna get flooded with e-mails! You've just named four very much researched names. Get ready for the flood! Personally I don't have a lot on any of them, but be sure and check out the Watauga NCGenWeb site here: http://www.geocities.com/familysnooper/Wata_county.html There are lots of good links there to get you started. Also, with all those names, you will probably have a bigger list before it is over. Happy searching! Sharon Joan R. 3. Hello, to all, I'm still amazed at all of the information and the willingness to share with me. You have no idea how much I've hoped that "Just maybe" my Tripletts could be from Watauga, BUT as we all know, we can't control what happened in the past. Hopefully, I'll be able to trace my ancestors to Watauga County, but maybe not. Sharon, I also have made the trip from the northwestern corner, of upstate South Carolina. I live in a small comminuty called Tamassee, between Walhalla, and Seneca S.C. Only about 96 miles from Burke Co. NC. One of my sons took me to the Morganton Burke County Library a year and a half ago, and we were able to find Land records, in Thomas's name, and a few other items. I have wanted to go back and walk through some of the cemeteries, to see if I can find a grave for my gggGrandmother (who ever she was). BTW, I've only lived out here for almost 30 years, but thats another story. I'll be back on here in a few minutes, and I'll give the names of the books I have, that may help some of you. Take care, Dorothy PS, I have printed all of the messages that all of you have sent to me, I just haven't had the time to read them all, but I will in just a bit.

    3. Michelle -- I am interested in basic information on Cutliff Harmon and Susan Fouts and their children, especially anything you might have on Mary Harmon (1775-1855) who married Bedent E. Baird (1770-1862). My Nancy Vanderpool (ca 1803-1885) married Alexander Harmon BAIRD (son of Bedent BAIRD and Mary HARMON) in 1826 in Ashe County, NC. and two of their children intermarried with the HARTLEYs. Happy to share and hopefully others on the list have information on these lines too. Myra Vanderpool Gormley, CG ----- Original Message ----- From: "Joan R. 1. Heritage Books as a Resource
    2. Referring to the comment from Sharon regarding Heritage Books, genealogists should not overlook them as a good source of information. They have been very helpful to me in finding some relatives and making connections. I served on the committee which compiled the Bedford County Virginia Heritage Book 2003, and have also submitted articles to the Amherst and Campbell County Virginia Heritage Books. The following is an excerpt from an article in the Campbell County VA Heritage Book 2003 written by me, published on page 267 of the book: "In the early 1920s, many families left western North Carolina, primarily Watauga County, and settled in central Virginia in Campbell County, Lynchburg, and Bedford County. Among the very first was Claude Lafayette Wilson (February 15, 1901-July 26, 1991) with his bride Chloe Mary Lawrence Wilson (October 28, 1906-January 8, 1986). They married on November 25, 1921 in Trade, Tennessee, and moved to Virginia in 1922. Zachary Taylor Isaacs (July 24, 1868-March 18, 1946) and his wife, Julia Price Isaacs (April 10, 1869-April 26, 1951) had moved to Campbell County from Watauga County N C prior to 1920. Their daughter, Verna, married James Fowlkes, a widower, on August 29, 1921 in Campbell County. While they were all visiting North Carolina, Mr. Fowlkes asked Claude Wilson to come to Virginia to work on his farm in Bedford County, near Forest, in the area known today as Everett Road. Chloe’s uncle, John Lawrence, and his family were already living in Campbell County, in the Rustburg district. The subsequent migration from western North Carolina and eastern Tennessee to this region included such family surnames as: Eggers, Bumgarner, Grogan, McGuire, Cullers, Winebarger, Watson, Parsons, Greene and others, in addition to Wilson, Lawrence and Isaacs, and many of their descendants still live here." I have been helped by Sharon and Sanna in my Watauga research. Amy

    1. Tripplett
    2. I do not have any past info on Tripplett's of the past. However in Lenoir, I have several Trippletts as follows; Coker Tripplett, Jr m. Peggy Ann Klutz and had a son Charles Daniel Tripplett. In annother family there is Martha Tripplett m. Duane Terry Klutz. In another family I have Clarence Tripplett m. Loy Bradshaw. While these are all separate familys they are related through the Klutz family which was my grand mothers maiden name. Peggy Klutz was the GGD of Jacob Calvin Klutz who died 1912 in Watauga Co. Duane Terry Klutz is the GGS of Jacob Calvin Klutz and a cousin to Peggy Klutz Loy Bradshaw is/was a cousin of the Gilbert /Klutz family. Is there any connection that you can find here. I can fill in a lot of the blanks in the Klutz/Gilbert familys of this era. Thank you Charles W. Wagner GGS of Boyden Alexander (Kluttz) Klutz

    3. You are right, there is a community by the name of Triplett. I don't know the history of that area, but there may be hints in the first sections of the Watauga County heritage books. I know several communities are mentioned in one way or another. I just don't have time at the moment to check that out. I do know that when I got my Volumes, I sat down and actually read them from front to back. I drove from upstate SC on my 50th birthday to pick them up there in Boone. I had just discovered them a few weeks prior, and I still think they are the best present I've even had! 3. Hi, to all and Sanna and Gail, First off, I have really not emailed with many groups who have been as helpful as the Watauga group. Thank you, again so much. Now, Gail---There is only one person in North Carolina's past that I'd like to know about, and that is "Thomas Triplett" who was the father to my John Triplett b. 1800-1801 in Burke Co., NC. We don't even know who John's mother was. Just maybe this could help. If you are sure this isn't a lot of trouble for you. Thanks, so much. and take care, all ! Dorothy

    3. Hello, to all of you. I want to thank all of you for your help. I did go to the 1850 Watauga census, and I'll check out all of the Tripletts on it. Most of the first names are unfamiliar to me, but I'll check anyway. It seems like I know about a town with the name Triplett, but I'm wondering if it was named for the Thomas Triplett who married Mary McGee. I've tried to figure out where he came from, but I haven't had any luck. I haven't found a connection with the Tripletts from Burke co. with the ones from Wilks co. I went to the Wade Eller site, last night and he has "Tripplett" surname on his index list. I'll check out the Elizabeth Triplett b.1799-1878 who married Livingston Carlton. Thanks, Roy for that clue. I have to tell all of you, now, that I realize that all of the Tripletts, Triplets, Tripplets, Trippletts, and various other spellings are related some how, one way or another, but it has been rather difficult for me to untangle the lines. When I was about 8yrs old, I remember thinking that I had the strangest last name, and that there could only be my family (remember my age) but WOW, was I wrong!!!!! Thank you again, and if any of you have any thing else that you think may help, I'd be more then glad to hear it. Take care, Dorothy

    3. Hello, again. Thank-you so much for your help. My gggGrandfather Thomas Triplett, was the father of many children in Burke Co.NC from about 1789 to 1830 when he went to Monroe co. Tenn. My ggGrand father John and one of his brothers George were both born in Burke Co. as were most of their siblings. I just read on a Triplett site that George died in Watauga Co. in 1874. I haven't had any luck in finding where my gggGrandfather lived after Virginia until he shows up in 1800 Burke co. census, and by this time he had 6 of his total of 10 children. I do thank you for you quick reply, and just so that you know, I went to my local library about a year ago, and they sent for the book by John Preston Arthur, on loan, for me.. I enjoyed reading it, but the only Triplett I found there was a Thomas Triplett who married a Mary McGee, whose grandparents were some of the Councill family. That Thomas was too young to be my gggGrandfather. I do know that there are lots of Tripletts in Virginia, North Carolina, and Tennessee. Thanks, again for your help. Take care, Dorothy

    3. In the 1850 Watauga Census there were three households of TRIPLETT . This link is on the Watauga NCGenWeb page. http://www.ls.net/~newriver/nc/wata1850.htm I would think that with three families some of them would still be around 25 years later. I know when I grew up in Watauga there were lots of Triplett families. 3. Which "published history"? the John Preston Arthur History of Watauga County is online here: http://www.geocities.com/familysnooper/Arthur/contents.html That is a link on the Watauga NCGenWeb site. http://www.geocities.com/familysnooper/Wata_links.html If you want an actual book to hold in your hand, that can ge gotten from the Watauga Genealogical Society. Information about that is here: http://www.geocities.com/familysnooper/Wata_society.html Along with information about lots of other resources. If it was the Watauga Heritage Vols. 1 and 2, that information can be found here: http://www.geocities.com/familysnooper/Vol.1info.html Hope this helps.
